Tired of helping my friend with his '69 GMC 4WD

About every two to three years, I help my friend and neighbor tear apart his front passenger side down to hub and try to take up space from a worn out hub.

The outer bearing race does not properly fit in the hub! My uneducated guess is the hub is worn the hell out. After searching for days, I have not found one hub for sale. Does anyone know who sells replacement hubs, or who may have used hubs for sale.

If all else fails, we need to look into replacing the entire front end with a later model, hopefully with disc brakes.

Thank You,

Bill

If you can't find an online vendor go to a salvage yard that has nationwide connections. They can hook up with other salvage yards to see if they can locate one for you. I've done that in the past and it may cost slightly more than if you found one locally but they also guarantee the part.

I used an online junkyard search site, but none were near me. I printed them out and my friend will be calling them today.

Sometimes Emory cloth and a file will do wonders to clean up any ridges in the hub and on the spindle. I had a small ridge on the spindle that would not let my bearing seat square. Knocked it down, smoothed it out. But you have to maintain the torque on the spindle nut. Jack it up and check for loose bearing with the tire on. Never had a problem since then.

Thanks for the idea, but ridges are not the problem.
The Bearing Race is too loose inside the hub. We need to take up some space.

Thanks,

Bill

Spun the race? If so, find a good machine shop that can build surface and has the proper machines to grind back OE specs. That is a hard home shop repair.

Yes, spun race! Unfortunately, the machinists I know are all retired. Even the shop I worked in is closed now.

What later model Dana 44 front ends will fit the '69 4WD?

Have link, seller name or auction number?
I have been searching SleezeBay, but no luck!

I actually found a replacement hub and two spindles.
Hopefully, no issues when we get them in...
