Alrighty then! I've harassed others long enough! It's time for me to take some heat! My '72 Highlander has been done for years, and the '67 is running & driving adequately for parts chasin'. Never tackled an HD-ish type rig, so here we go!

This ain't the kind of build that starts out with concept drawings---this is the kind that gets designed by what shows up on Craigslist this week. IDK if it will ever see a paint gun. But it will be functional and reliable (remind me of that bold statement).

What we're supposed to end up with here is a '72 C30 dually pickup. What we have now is a 72 C20. It will still have a 2 in the VIN, but it'll be an honest-to-gosh C30 in every way. Except one---it'll keep the C-20 trailing arm suspension.

So the gun has fired and we're off! At this moment, I have owned the truck one week, so you won't see a barrage of photos right off. But I vow to post pics! even the insignificant ones!

9 years sitting under a tree--here you see the "dirty" of down & dirty!

This is the culprit that parked it 9 (or more) years ago! The axle seals leaked grease into the brake drums & shoes, and it just wouldn't stop no mo! The owner bought something else and parked it under a tree.

Rock went to the car wash today!

GMC's may have 2 sets of headlights, but the rock got two official bowties!

This is the last ride to Wendy's as a passenger. Next time she goes under her own power.

She better get chummy with that hauler, though---her butt's gonna be pulling it.

The PO must have known I wanted to cut the wheel wells and make it a dually---he already started the cut!

She got unleashed and hit the pavement in McKinney Texas for the first time today! Her first official duty---MAKE SOME NOISE!

Gotta love these SBC's---I stuck a battery in and poured some gas in the QJet; she lit up on the 4th or 5th round! After sitting dormant for years! If I'm lyin', I'm dyin'!

And I got a complimentary fuel pressure check. The old mechanical pump pushed enough to spew gas out around the inline filter hoses!

Straightened out the fuel line so I could listen to it. It sounds solid, so that will be the initial engine it runs with. I didn't get to throw it in gear and see if the slushbox will pull and shift. But I did order a clutch/brake pedal assy from a member, so that tells you where my heart is. It will be a NV4500 or NV3500 most likely.

Well...no, but I got the ideas off Craigslist! Most of it came from an appropriately named source, though: Rock Auto!

Thanks for the push, Calvin! I've been moving my workshop. Most of those boxes have mundane stuff like axle seals, bearings, brake shoes, and so forth--but there are some cool Western Chassis dropped spindles and coils in there somewhere.

Did you get your transmission in? I think we should load the back of that truck up with baloney and bread and head out on Power Tour!

Seems like the last time I posted on my own project was back when Moby Dick was a minnow! In the meantime I moved my residence, and my workshop--so basically Rock hasn't been touched. I got a call from Dave at Porterbuilt last week, and they're shipping my rear bags, arms, C's, etc., this week! I picked up a driver door a couple of weeks ago (woohoo). I stumbled onto some NOS 22.5 Alcoa semi wheels cheap. They are 8 lug, but Tenn Wheel and Tire is sending me their excellent adaptors in a 8 lug to 8 lug format. I'm hoping the 2 less lugs will have a neat, uncluttered look. We'll see.

I'm seeing that on the news, and grapefruit-size hail possible. I hope it doesn't make it across the metroplex to the east side!

Good luck with the weather there, Jake. It's definitely that time of year.

So... What exactly do you hope to purloin from Craigslist?

Anything non-driveline related, mostly. I want it as dependable as possible! I have a pile of new stuff (brakes, hubs, bearings, ujoints, shocks, PB rear susp, Western Chassis front stuff, tie rod ends, ball j's...

Great! I had to lay off for several months due to a move, a death in the family, and a long term illness (wife's ma has Alzheimer's). I'm ready to get back on it now! Your project is an inspiration!
