For your viewing pleasure
I started this frame the other day, I always wanted to this. I cut 2" out of the stock cross member. I'll take care of the center link later.
http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...U/IMG_1277.jpg I'm building this chassis with left over steel from other jobs. For now I'll use the stock control arms for mock up. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...U/IMG_1296.jpg The center of the frame will be 2x4 .083 wall with .50x2" for the bracing http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...U/IMG_1303.jpg I raised it up to ride height then tacked some stands under it http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...U/IMG_1314.jpg I'll post some more pictures later on http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...U/IMG_1309.jpg |
Re: For your viewing pleasure
but why narrow the track width?
|
Re: For your viewing pleasure
Looks good but i would recommend going a little thicker for your 2x4 rails. Not trying to be rude or anything but .083 is pretty thin and even though you have 1/2x2" bracing it still attaches to the .083. You could have 1" thick bracing but it isn't worth anything because its only as strong as what you are attaching it too. I would go with .120 2x4. Make sure you "V" the butt joint on the 2x4's when you attach them to the other pieces. That way when you weld it up you are getting full pen on both sides of the steel. Anyways good luck and nice start.
ps. I like the look of that 1/2"x2" bracing. Very creative. Josh |
Re: For your viewing pleasure
Interesting, I like the idea. But hell, if youre making a frame anyway why not just run w/ a rack and pinion? Keep us updated.

Re: For your viewing pleasure
Abadsvt you are right, normally I would use .120 wall. That 2x4 was from a job I did for a guy and he had to have 2x4 .083 wall. That was a stick that has been in my metal rack for 3 or 4 years. I'm never going to use it and I'm tried of looking at it. I have used .083 on race cars before but not 2x4. I will have to put some real creative bracing in the frame. I do have a plan so I'll keep everybody posted. Oh Yeah thanks for watching everybody I left the show 3 months ago. Jessi from extreme is leaving at the end of this month.

hey welcome to the forums nice build;)

Re: For your viewing pleasure
Im suprised everybody is wondering why the narrowed track width. Doesn't the dropmember have a narrowed width? I would assume its so you can tuck some wider rubber up front??
|
Re: For your viewing pleasure
The Narrowed front end is just something I always wanted to do. After all it's stock. A friend of mine works at one of the NASCAR teams. He told me if I get the center link the way I want it he would make one for me. As far as the deflection I just have to brace it up real good. I need to sit down when I get the rest of the frame done and figure it out. The truck is mine so I can play with it. You know a little R&D. I might put a rack & pinion on it. just for ****s and giggles.
