PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
I started this project a while ago....so some of these pics are Mar '07 till the present. Originally we remove the suspension only for powder-coating...but with the addition of the 630HP LS7...we went all out with a body-off resto-mod....
Enjoy !! Just getting started on the pops Vette (father-n-law) Body is in the 'blocking' stage....had to be pulled from a 'tweaker' body man. That deal went sour.... In the meantime...the body is being hanked to powercoat the frame. The suspenson was already done... Here's some pics.... Here a couple shots of the chassis and the lift....The 2x4 tubing with the chain wrapped around it is just a temporary deal...It will have a conveyor type set-up with a hook.
Couple more... http://i9.tinypic.com/29mn8k6.jpg - http://i12.tinypic.com/4gjcdi8.jpg - http://i9.tinypic.com/2hp5e36.jpg - http://i13.tinypic.com/2u95m5c.jpg - http://i3.tinypic.com/2jb5l04.jpg - http://i12.tinypic.com/30t4f2f.jpg - http://i14.tinypic.com/2vctgci.jpg - http://i10.tinypic.com/2rxiej7.jpg |

A little break in time - May, 08
- - Here are the powder-coated frame pics. I haven't on it for a while. Actually the frame sat at the coaters for about 2-weeks completed....picked it up and its been sitting at my shop for about three. http://i2.tinypic.com/6hifaf4.jpg - http://i6.tinypic.com/4qj282t.jpg - http://i8.tinypic.com/4uc62ht.jpg |

- - What we are doing here is scraping, and preping the under-body. We are removing the nasty undercoating, prepping, and decided to use a product similar to LINE-X on the under-side. We were going to paint it with the body paint, but the LINE-X will be much more durable. Check it out..... I LOVE FORKLIFTS, BY THE WAY !!!   http://i14.tinypic.com/4zkphcg.jpg - http://i7.tinypic.com/6800qqo.jpg - http://i13.tinypic.com/63t5j7b.jpg - There's alot more coming off this thing..... - http://i16.tinypic.com/52getxk.jpg - http://i19.tinypic.com/6coppi8.jpg - http://i17.tinypic.com/52gbtht.jpg - http://i7.tinypic.com/62h5ldc.jpg Today (Sunday), we will finish the prep, and spray the coating on. Finishing up another customers car (hydro-suspension), and then I will start the rolling chassis assembly. |

Re: PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
We brought the frame into the shop, to begin the reassembly.-
- - Even though it was covered, we wiped all the dust off, and gave it a coat of wax... - http://i5.tinypic.com/71mz8m9.jpg - http://i5.tinypic.com/87a1gnl.jpg - http://i7.tinypic.com/6te3gjt.jpg - http://i11.tinypic.com/71pfyhj.jpg - First step...install the upper bump.... - http://i15.tinypic.com/6jkfk7n.jpg - Originally the suspension was removed, and powder-coated...so it all just needed a clean up (from sitting at the body-shop).....Here to lend a hand is Ruben aka "Snowman".... - - http://i14.tinypic.com/87ia42o.jpg - http://i18.tinypic.com/6nuok0l.jpg - http://i3.tinypic.com/8e1mk60.jpg - http://i6.tinypic.com/834zo85.jpg - I think the black and silver will look great together (no, not Raider fans) - http://i10.tinypic.com/6y2o0gx.jpg |

Here we un-wrapped some 'gifts' from the coaters...

Re: PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
Somehow, the rear brake line (along the frame) was coated black instead of silver....but I guess I will let it slide this time !!! Our coater is a great guy, so it's cool.
- http://i11.tinypic.com/8efr3np.jpg - http://i14.tinypic.com/6okf428.jpg - - We forgot to include the rotors in the coating, so they along with the calipers will get a nice coat of high temp caliper paint (black/silver) - - |
Re: PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
Some things I would of done differently...like big A$$ brakes....different suspension, etc.etc...but this is what the customer wants.
Everything on the chassis, however is NEW.....and it is a Vette, not a Caprice so we have some decent stuff stock already. I have a lot of work ahead of me...but slowly but surely, it will take shape. Here are a few more pics....... More stashed parts to be cleaned: - - http://i5.tinypic.com/6jgfcbr.jpg - http://i13.tinypic.com/8brrxa0.jpg - http://i18.tinypic.com/6ufafwp.jpg - - Rotors cleaned, painted and ready to go on: - http://i5.tinypic.com/89vjbxv.jpg - http://i5.tinypic.com/8eq2537.jpg - http://i5.tinypic.com/8ehwa6g.jpg - http://i17.tinypic.com/7yqymgp.jpg - Rear trailing arms on: - http://i11.tinypic.com/82c2hl1.jpg |

Preparing the rear crossmember for powder-coating:
-- - http://i11.tinypic.com/89fypf9.jpg - http://i6.tinypic.com/80wcdpz.jpg - - Made a template and fabbed up a simple mount for the -8 and -6 fuel lines. I figure since the body is off, might as well bend up some nice hard-lines, instead of flexlines.... ....... - - http://i14.tinypic.com/7xwy5gl.jpg - http://i3.tinypic.com/6nw7g40.jpg - http://i1.tinypic.com/867hopy.jpg - http://i13.tinypic.com/6q1xkxz.jpg - Drill and tapped the frame for the mount.... - http://i11.tinypic.com/82da0er.jpg - http://i13.tinypic.com/7ys68o0.jpg - http://i6.tinypic.com/7w7ot1d.jpg - http://i8.tinypic.com/7w4tp2u.jpg - - |
Re: PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
This mount lines up with the lower portion of the firewall....from there we will hook up the regulator and fuel return lines....
- http://i9.tinypic.com/8bt23ic.jpg - - I mounted the rear crossmember...and temporarily mounted the fuel tank for mock-up of the deep-sump that will be added to the tank before the powder-coating... - http://i10.tinypic.com/6t45jf4.jpg - http://i6.tinypic.com/6oq1a2t.jpg - http://i6.tinypic.com/8eq2551.jpg - http://i5.tinypic.com/6u407li.jpg - http://i9.tinypic.com/733jl0j.jpg - http://i12.tinypic.com/80ocdpv.jpg - - - |
Re: PROJECT "Z069" - LS7 powered '69 Stingray....
So that Raptor undercoating came out nice? I've seen it for $100 for the kit and am thinking of using it under my cab.
nice work BTW... |
