kyb shocks/ part numbers

Anyone using kyb gas a just shocks on a 4-6 or greater drop. I had them on another truck, and want to put them on again, but can't get kyb to help me out with length specs etc.. I guess they won't publish the info I need to look them up that way. So if any one has them and knows part numbers I would really appreciate it. Thanks Jared

Lets see if you get a better response in the Suspension forum.

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

If someone has this information and posts it, are the shocks going to be different for a 67-72 setup vs. a 73-87?

If so... can someone also post up the parts numbers for the 67-72 KYB drop shocks.

Thanks in advance!

And, I hope that I didn't hijack your thread jared78; this is a question I've been meaning to ask but always seemed to forget.

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

no all the shocks are all the same. i prefer doetsch tech shocks for lowered trucks. although i have KYB's on my Caprice and i love them. KYB's just dont work well in the rear of trucks because trucks are so light. thats my 2 cents on shocks

Thanks Jim!

bump to make sure the numbers pictured above will work for jared78.

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

btw my actual drop is more like a 4.5/6 but they based the shocks on the springs which where 2/4

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

Are those ECE numbers or KYB numbers?
It looks like you can read a different number thru that sticker.

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

Good call lolife.

The 7510 number crosses to KYB #344055
The 7502 number crosess to KYB #344068

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

Excellent, I was just about to come over here and post that the number didn't correspond.

According to Advance Auto Parts:

KYB #344055 (rear) - $33.99 (ECE price $40.00)
KYB #344068 (front) - not listed (ECE price $40.00)

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

Thanks for bringing that to my attention Blckbuty. :dohh: Oh well I guess I'd rather give my money to ECE than Advance anyway. Although now they are going to be pissed at me for giving away the secret.

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

 Hey in times like these every dollar counts. :D

Besides usually when you order parts by calling ECE they will usually beat the price you thought they were going to charge. Stan, Mark, and the rest of the guys are great!

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

EDIT: I have a different number for a 6" rear drop shock for a 67-72 truck. (KYB#344067).

I'm looking for the front shock number for a 4" drop. (67-87)

Anyone have this number?

72BlckButy 03-03-2009 10:59 PM

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

Keith, depending on the drop will the shock be different? It seems like ECE only offers one set at least according to their site.

jholley 03-03-2009 11:03 PM

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

lolife, is your front drop all spring or a combo of springs and spindles? My point is that the spindle drop doesn't count when computing what shock you need.

lolife99 03-03-2009 11:14 PM

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

I need a shock that will work with a 3" front spring. (I'm also running a 2.5" spindle for a total of 5.5" drop)

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

are those the 67-72 part numbers or 73-87. If they are 67-72 are they for coil or leaf rearend? I know that if they are leaf spring numbers they'll work for mine too.

lolife99 03-04-2009 07:24 AM

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

jared78,... sorry your thread got hijacked.
The fronts will be the same 67-87.
The rear shock numbers I posted are for 67-72 coil spring truck. I will edit my post.
Maybe calling KYB would be the best bet.

Re: kyb shocks/ part numbers

Here's what I determined for 1973-1987 and 1967-1972 Chevrolet C/10 pickups:

1973-1987:

FRONT GR2 344068 Shock Absorber 2 RWD
REAR GR2 344072 Shock Absorber 2 RWD
FRONT GAS-A-JUST KG5409 Shock Absorber 2 RWD
REAR GAS-A-JUST KG5415 Shock Absorber 2 RWD
FRONT MONOMAX 565032 Shock Absorber 2 RWD
REAR MONOMAX 565036 Shock Absorber 2 RWD

1967-1972:

FRONT GR2 344068 Shock Absorber 2 w/ Coil Spring RWD
FRONT GAS-A-JUST KG5409 Shock Absorber 2 w/ Coil Spring RWD
REAR GAS-A-JUST KG5416 Shock Absorber 2 w/ Coil Spring RWD
FRONT MONOMAX 565032 Shock Absorber 2 w/ Coil Spring RWD
FRONT GR2 344068 Shock Absorber 2 w/ Leaf Spring RWD
REAR GR2 344085 Shock Absorber 2 w/ Leaf Spring RWD
FRONT GAS-A-JUST KG5409 Shock Absorber 2 w/ Leaf Spring RWD
REAR GAS-A-JUST KG5419 Shock Absorber 2 w/ Leaf Spring RWD
FRONT MONOMAX 565032 Shock Absorber 2 w/ Leaf Spring RWD
REAR MONOMAX 565037 Shock Absorber 2 w/ Leaf Spring RWD

For the '73-'87 trucks it mainly depends on the type of KYB shock you want to purchase. As for the '67-'72 trucks it depends on the type of KYB shock, but also the type of rear suspension. It looks like there isn't a difference on the height, or lack there of, of your suspension travel. Low and slow... :D

KYB Shock Difference:

KYB GR-2® / Excel-G®
twin-tube shocks, struts, and cartridges
Purpose: Restores a vehicle’s originally designed handling and control

Calibrated to compensate for worn suspensions
Components and valving are designed specifically for each application
The best choice to restore OE performance and normal driving conditions
Built with quality that matches or exceeds OE
Coverage for domestic and import cars, trucks, vans, minivans, and SUVs

KYB Gas-a-Just®monotube shock absorbers
Purpose: Significantly increases vehicle stability, handling, and control over twin-tube designs.

Gas-a-Just is the replacement for an OE monotube shock
Ideal as an upgrade from an OE twin-tube
The more responsive monotube design automatically adjusts to driving conditions
Applications for cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs

KYB MonoMax®heavy duty monotube shock absorbers
Purpose: Maximum control for trucks and SUVs – stronger, more durable truck shock

The right choice for hauling, towing, or plowing
The best performer on harsh road conditions
Perfect for diesel trucks
Applications for light trucks, vans, and SUVs, including some lifted and lowered vehicles

I hope this helps guys...

I don't think the thread was hijacked, still some good info. I did call KYB to get some info on extended and collapsed lengths, but they said they wouldn't publish that info or give it out. So I got a lowered gr2 number that I can cross to a gas a just number. I just need a rear number for a 6" drop leaf spring truck. A 4" drop shock could work too, I'll just get lower mount relocators. Thanks again for the help guys.
