What is a good photo hosting site?

I had Flickr disappear me this week. So this thread http://http://www.67-72chevytrucks.c...d.php?t=800057 is now garbage.

Read through this blog http://https://www.photoblog.com/lea...sharing-sites/ to see what is popular at the moment. Flickr is the first one, then Instagram, then a bunch I never heard of.

What do you use?

Most of my stuff, which is car junk, is on this site under the gallery feature. I do not rely on any site, per-say, to keep my photos. They are on storage drives at home here.

I don't like the photo host sites, so I can't say.
I can suggest USB Flash drives and just upload to the site.

For pictures I want to post here to my build thread, I use the site's gallery.

I don't think there's a tutorial on how to use it, so if not, I could try to create one over my Christmas break

Re: What is a good photo hosting site?

Good rule of thumb. If the hosting site is free, YOU are the product. And the TOS may change at a moment's notice, leaving you little time to move your files. Also, most hosting sites disclaim any responsibility for loss of data.

Portable hard drives are fairly cheap. Keep files you feel are important on a couple. Really important files should be ALSO on a flash drive and in a safe deposit box or equivalent. Keeping files in a single location is a good way lose them if something bad happens.

Re: What is a good photo hosting site?

I do use a back-up drive for all my stuff, and sometimes a thumb drive such as for my camping trip. The issue is linking to this forum, that's the problem. I started on Flickr 2008, lost track of where and what I keep pictures on, if it's a DVD, this laptop does not have a DVD drive so I need to buy a plug-in. I've already posted a ton of pictures, even if I kept paying for premium membership I would use up allowed space in no time.

I see the suggestions for sites, THANK YOU.

2 Attachment(s)
Evidently I don't use the gallery.
I have posted alot of pictures over the years.
When I just clicked Gallery in the top toolbar.
I checked my status,
Here it is. Unlimited and Zero used.
Attachment 2148020

I use the pictures that are in my computer.
I email them from my phone or grab pictures off the Net.
I just click on the attachments paper clip symbol.
Then I can load up to 5 pictures.
I just have to keep up with what I name them:lol:

Okay, I tried downloading two of my camping trip pictures, original iPhone size, TOO BIG. I'm not going to resize every picture, which reduces the resolution.

I obviously have to learn how to post from the gallery.......

I haven't found that reducing the size reduces the resolution but I use Photoshop to resize mine. If you upload them to the gallery without sizing them down they may still be too big to post. Dunno, I have never tried that.

I size mine down to 1150 pixels wide.

Re: What is a good photo hosting site?

i love that the site offers picture hosting, the only dink is that the picture size is 640x480. that was a groundbreaking picture size in 2002, but in 2021 my camera phone takes one picture with more pixels then my entire set of albums here. free is free though, better than no hosting for sure.

Re: What is a good photo hosting site?

I dont use or trust any third party hosting platforms....they will usually hold YOUR data...photos, documents etc....hostage and expect you to pay forever to retain and access your data.

I keep all my pics and data on my computer, which is backed up every day to a local wifi connected hard drive pack.

Photos that I consider irreplaceable are kept on two remote data drives and DVD....

I was an IT Director for many years and learned to never rely on 3rd party apps for MY DATA security.

I just store mine on my computer and upload them to the message board from there. I also have redundant backups.

Re: What is a good photo hosting site?

Since Photobucket did the major renig with my photos I have only kept them in folders on my computer. The one time I saved all my pics to an external drive, bought specifically to store my data while computer got repaired and given new OS, the external drive took a crap and I still lost everything (@#%&ing POS! :cuss:). I need to get another and hope for better luck. I do have some pictures in this site's gallery

I'm checking in, keep the comments coming!

I'm currently a paid Premium Member, willing to support this forum. But if things change, would my photos disappear if I didn't pay the rent?

I don't believe they would disappear. You do not have to be a Premium member to use the gallery on this site.

This............Who knew even with tech better to maintain it yourself. Plus not sharing with global enterprise sweetens the pot. Musical files & personal the same.

One of my kids asked where my Flickr account went. Wanted to show someone the gingerbread houses I had done. I wouldn't post pictures of gingerbread houses here. Just an example of a benefit of a hosting site.

I don't know why not. I have posted pictures of the cookies and stuff I bake on the General Discussion forum here. That is what it's for.
