Help with casting number
 
Trying to figure out year of truck engine I ended up with. Any help is appreciated.

That's a 4.8/5.3 block, the only way to know for certain which one is to pull the pan and get the casting number off the crank. 4.8's have flat top pistons and most 5.3's have dished, but not all so you can't be certain that way. If you know the vehicle it came out of's VIN and know that it was the stock motor that can tell you.

You can cheat with an inspection camera if you pop a plug out and look at the piston face.
