Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum

well i was offering you the whole cab haha. my only options with it is 1. find the missing dash pieces (i can make a gauge cutout but not the glovebox door or hinge) or 2. swap dash or 3. sell cab, someone has got to want a rust free 54 GMC cab somewhere. My friend said if I swap the dash he will buy the GMC dash back to hang on the wall, but I have plenty of cabs that dont need the work.

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum

I do like the dash but would have the same problem you face with the glove box door. Those are unobtanium.

Just so you know, after you said that, I did check google maps to see what a drive to Topeka would be, 11 hours one way, so a two day trip and a hotel room. Not that I am thinking about it...

I should have taken pics of the cab I looked at yesterday for you to see how sweet those 3 are!

LS Fabrications says the Chevy and GMC glove box doors are the same, is that true?

good news! I live in doodah which is wichita, so I just saved you 5.5 hours of driving when are you planning to be here. hahah

they are not the same, the GMC is convex face and slightly trapezoidal in shape. the chevy is flat and rectangle. they show up on ebay, $70-250. here is the gmc followed by the chevy

I picked them up yesterday. so incredibly clean. and then on the way home with the first two I spotted a tape measure in the on ramp so with the last cab I stopped. Free tape measure woot!

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum

great work, just read the whole thread.love the cutting table made pieces.a man would be hard pressed to come up with parts that look that good,go together that nice and have 1 or 101 be all identical, any other way.i buy parts like that from a place in Ontario.they've made a bunch of pieces for me i designed and then they cut up that i used to install a 360 dodge motor,a mustang 2 front end, transmission mount and some other things all in my 39 Chrysler project.great parts, wish i could do it here.you do great work.i'll be watching.take care.thanks.

post 85,....you plan to buy a trailer wiring plug?haha.

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum

haha ds there is one there, it has a box behind the interior panel because the jeep is separate lights for brake and turn. i have been using the cherokee and the 77"x12' trailer for most hauling because it gets better mpg than the silverado.

mr mud thanks!

Always enjoy seeing what you have on the go. I have a bit of an off topic question.
You've built alot of Advance Design pickups....what do you use for headliner material to replace the original ? I have the original for a pattern, I'll just not include the mouse holes!
Thanks Russ.

joedoh 01-25-2023 07:58 PM

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum

i use the cardboard replacement headliners but a tip: kind of prebend them and always work with a friend.

I always say I am going to trace the headliner on all this kydex i have but i NEVER DO.:lol:

playing around in the shop, saw a guy who said his 48 ford truck came with some hudson taillights. i looked them up and they had an interesting shape, found a set on ebay and got some harley LEDs. they fit the curve of the fender like they were made for them, and the LEDs fit great and are bright as heck. single ring parking light, and two brighter brake/turn.

dsraven 02-01-2023 10:45 AM

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum

nice find. those LED's will be great too. looks like the curve was made for a chevy fender.

Advanced Design 02-03-2023 11:31 AM

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum

Those Hudson taillights are a creative idea. You may start a new customizing trend!

8man 02-09-2023 04:31 PM

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum

Russ, what fender did those Hudson's fit on so nicely?

joedoh 02-10-2023 12:02 AM

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum

thats a 47-55 fender! they match the curve both vertically and horizontally. its like they were made for them

haha the cnc table is like 3 feet to the right. I used to watch for torch collisions religiously or sometimes the slag on the shield would grab the metal and take it for a ride, but ever since I got the z axis motor and torch height control software, i can cut an entire nest while just kind of staying in the room. the 54 is still in the 4 season garage ©®™ so i can walk out in the driveway and work on it too, such a godsend was that upgrade, like almost doubled the cost of the table with the machine torch but sheeeeeeeesh.

I have been getting further in front of orders with an actual inventory so i should be finishing the 54 soon, more to come!

I got a new welder! well I didnt but I did. i research everything religiously, and so I picked a hobart ironman 240. look at the size difference, old one on the left.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1676865681

kits are mostly 3/16th material, my old welder was a trooper and as long as you keep a carpet fan on it, it would do the job and then some. not bad for a 23 year old machine that ironically i bought because it was way more capability than I needed at the time. here is a comparison of the settings for 3/16th parts, old machine (lincoln 170T) vs new.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1676865681
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1676865681

the lincoln had a 30% duty cycle at that setting! the hobart has 100% duty cycle at that setting. :haha:

and how did i get a new welder but didnt? well, the new one is going to my kit welders house, along with the welding table and the vise and some other stuff. instead of him schlepping over here to weld on saturdays and sometimes sundays (and sometimes mondays!) depending on orders, he will now do it in the comfort of his own shop. I will supply the steel and the wire and the gas and the consumables.

which means more time for activities here! I have been working on new stuff like a madman, and teh 54 of course.

Re: 55.1 S10 swap Gypsum

Nice upgrade. I must admit I've been thinking about upgrading my Lincoln 180T. This darn peer pressure...
