NEED!! Suburban 4x4 pics with tire/wheel info
 

I need tires and wheels for my Suburban, I stress over this decision more than anything else when I buy a new vehicle. I am an old man , I don't like my tires sticking out past the fenders. I like the setup on this Suburban, can anyone tell me what size these tires are? Post your pics with info please.

the tires pictured above are TSL made by Interco.. I can't make out the exact style or size..

they're famous for the the TSL Thornbird and Super Swamper tires among several others..

they introduced the original Swamper tires in the 60s or 70s :metal:

outstanding offroad traction performance but they are bias ply and not popular for the younger high-speed crowd..

I like the looks of them on vintage trucks because they look more like the bias ply truck tires that were common back then..

they do have a couple of designs that may be to your liking..

they make a popular offroad tire you may have heard of, the Super Lug :metal:

late model GM take-offs.. here are the markings on these, I see lots of various fitments advertised on ebay tho..

I'm planning to replace these eventually so need the pictures anyways :)

I knew I recognized that suburban in the original picture. I know I have that magazine around somewhere...and I bet the wheel tire specs are in the article.
The other pics are my suburban with 35x12.5x18 wheel/tires, not sure the offset but they 'barely' stick out past the fender lip.

interesting that tire size is recommended for 10" rim width but mounted on 7" rim still appearing to fit..

either way, got me browsing the interco site more thoroughly and found a size I hadn't noticed before :D

Killer Bee I love the look of those Super Lugs. I'm thinking of putting them on my Blazer. Do you have any pics of your Burb straight from the side? What is your real world driving review of the Super Lug? I hear a lot of bad stuff about bias ply tires.

lots of opinions out there, here's one article that sums up some of my opinions

I won't say I prefer bias over radial, however I do like the vintage appearance and feel of the ones I'm familiar with.. I also know how to drive a vehicle safely with four wheel manual drum brakes ;)

specifically on both of my K subs, they are built for off road so the minor drawbacks on pavement doesn't bother me in the least..

these superlugs are driveable with almost no air in them :lol: but regardless of inflation can be a little squirrelly on grooved asphalt or offsets in the road etc.. they were on the burb when I bought it and have had no issues on the freeway, in town, or light trails.. but I haven't really pushed it that hard yet off road and I keep it within reasonable speeds on the road..

I am looking to replace these (and the TSLs on my blue burb) since they are fairly old and worn.. there isn't much selection for tall and skinny but I found these recently that I thought were interesting, I don't recall seeing them before a couple of weeks ago..

Thanks , that is perfect. Those fill up the wheel arch nicely. They look perfect for the age of your truck. I don’t like the crazy sidewall patterns on most modern mud tires. I haven’t found many pictures of Superlugs on 67-72 trucks, so I appreciate the pic. I was concerned because my wheel opening is right a 36” at the bottom. Do you know if Blazers and Burbs had the same rear wheel opening? I mainly just want to cruise around on the back roads, so I can accept a little rough ride for the vintage look. -Keith

My '67 K/10 Sub had 33x12.50x15LT on 15 x 8 spoked rims. My '71 GMC Jimmy K/1500 has 33x12.50x15LT on 15 x 10 rims.
When I tried to put the Jimmy's wheels on the Sub, it wouldn't fully turn. With the same size tires on 10'' rims, I got interference.
The '67 had no lift. Some corners in the Jimmy's wheel wells had been clearanced by the PO.
Both in the Half Ton range with 6 x 6.5'' lug spacing.

sounds like they'll work out well for your needs.. with all that sidewall, they actually ride just fine to me, and my family never complains :)

I don't know if burbs and blazers share wheel openings but my burb is also 36" at the widest points across lower edges.. and from a line drawn across there to the top of the wheel opening is about 17"

there aren't a lot of tall and narrow options these days but the sta superlugs do look great and work well..

Sure surprised me. I had to take the '68 C/10 Stepside to work.

With a wider shoulder width, the tire profile does not stand as tall.
Conversly, the same dimensioned tire on the narrower rim gets taller.

I once got a verbal warning from a Highway Patrolman. Speed limit was 70. I'm clipping by in my Jimmy [which temporarily had the Suburban's tire set on all around] My speedo indicates 70 MPH. He's out of his car standing in the median, observing traffic on a lonesome stretch of I-10 -- between Tucson and Phoenix. Thinking I was doing no wrong, I gave the Trooper a friendly wave.
About a mile or 2 later, he pulls me over, and says I was speeding. We then used mathematical formulas based on my tires' radius to determine rate of speed. So the speedometer reads ''slow'' with larger diameter tires.
Because I had thought I was within the Speed Limit, and was not a jerk about it, he gave me a Verbal Warning to slow down.
Now I like to check my GPS for the more accurate ground speed, especially on the freeway.
