You live in Arizona and you are asking us? I would think that you have a lot of sources in your area, that we don't have. I can't say that I have ever actually seenone made as a seat cover. There used to be a lot of seat covers at the local Farm Outlet Stores that resembled an Indian blanket, but the material was really cheap.

Ha-ha! I didn't even pick up on that. When I lived in Tucson there were always people on street corners selling the real deal. If you just want an actual blanket rather than a fitted seat cover I'm sure you would have no problem finding one.

yea... i may live here, but that doesn't mean i know everyone. i have looked at autozone, but i did not ask them specifically, i will do that. i also have done ditto with pep boys but i will try with them as well. i was under the idea that they were actually seat covers ( i am not really up to date on them, hince the question). & no i don't have one & no i have not checked mexico. even though i live in arizona...

i guess i just had the wrong idea when i read (misc. articles) that the seat had a "mexican style" seat cover, i assumed that they meant a real seatcover

are there any "seatcovers" that are made like "mexican style" blankets??

I used a nice blanket I picket up for $20 at the flea market until I got my new seat. I used some nylon twine to secure it in the corners and between the bottom/back. It worked great and looked great too. My seat was old and worn, so I got a Silverado bench to replace it.

Sorry about the smartass comment rodstored, but the saddle blanket seat covers were the closest I could find. I did a search on eBay and the closest I found there was a guy selling really big serapes.

Most "Indian Blanket"seatcovers were just an indian blanket thrown over a seat.I have done it years ago.Now that the $$$$$ people are building rat rods there is probably someone making them.I think I would look for a big blanket or maybe a couple small ones and have the upholstry shop make one.Or better yet take an upholstry class and do it yourself.

I helped a friend make a chain wheel for his bagged '71 Blazer project. We powdercoated it flat black, it's awesome (in a very ghetto trashy way).

My wife just took the blanket and sewed some elastic straps onto it in her truck, it stays put very well.

i tried to get a reg. seat cover (saddle type) but i could not find one that fit my '72 truck. i am thinking that a generic seat cover for a 73- & later would fit ok??

does someone know if this is true???

Like Powell72 said, you can secure it well enough. I just used some nylon string and hooked it through a few places and tied it off to the springs.

My stock bench was shot on the driver side. My wife had the idea to use the blanket before I'd seen it done anywhere. Come to find out it's a common practice. :D

I have seen the Mexican blankets (not seat covers, but real blankets) at truck stops ... all different patterns stacked up in one big pile for like $10-$20 per blanket.

That's ol' skool to use the blankets ... not the covers. :ito:

I got mine in Ensenada Mexico for 5 bucks. It was right next to the black velvet painting of Bob Marley. Decisions decisions. :D
