Enough paint removal?
 

Hi all,

I'm removing paint and rust from this bedside with paint removal disks before I epoxy prime. The little corners and crevices are hard to get to! Have I done enough or do I need to keep going? If I keep going what's the best method for getting these spots? I've tried hand sanding but it's hard to get my mitts in there to do much. I'd really rather not get into the mess of sandblasting if at all possible.

It's slow, but one of those small spot blasters would work...I have the same issues getting my 5xl hands in places...wrapping sandpaper around paint sticks works in some spots..

^^ I agree ... a small spot blaster works great for cleaning up those hard to reach areas.

I use one made by Zendex along with their recovery system.

The recovery system includes a few different rubber tips (including one that fits into inside corners) and helps quite a bit with keeping the blast media from going everywhere. It's not 100% perfect though ... there are still some spots where the rubber tips won't fit and you have to blast without it.

Interesting. Those aren't terribly expensive. What kind of media do you guys use?

If you get one at cardboard freight, they also have media there..I like the black...

I've been using the Black Diamond media from Tractor Supply. They also have a medium grit, but I've always used the fine stuff in my little spot blaster.

The fine grit black diamond from tsc is what I use in my blaster. Have used it on trailers, hard to reach places on my frame. Plan to use it on the hard to reach places just like above.

You have enough area there to drive you crazy with a spot blaster. What you really need is a regular blaster, siphon would do just fine. A spot blaster just takes WAY too long in places like that, especially inside corners. You end up with half of it on the ground anyway...just start out thinking "Its going to end up on the ground" with a regular blaster & plan for it (tarps, ect). I really cant see how a person could plan to re-do an older vehicle without one. I guess maybe in Arizona or someplace. Lorne

Wire wheels if you dont want to blast . I have the cheap HF blaster it does what I need is it good not really but it was 1/3 the cost of a quality unit . I use black slag from Tractor supply
