66 K20 3/4 or 1 Ton?
 

The data plate on my 66 K20 says 7600 LB, photo attached. Does that represent a 3/4 ton truck? Location is driver's footwell, left side below the A Pillar, closer to the floor.

Photo is hard to read. For those interested, Trim is STD, WB is 127, Paint is 4505AA

Thank you. Title says Model K2534, Fleetside K20, Green. VIN on the frame and on the data plate match the title (K2546T10XXXX). How does the math work to get to 7600 LB GVW?

They are never dead on as in a 1\2 ton can usually carry more than 1000lbs and a 1 ton can carry more than 2000. They usually take things into consideration such as axle weight ratings and tire load ratings, since most of the time hauling weight in a truck means in the bed over the rear axle your dealing with rating of that axle and 2 tires with little bit of weight being put onto the front axle.

Just using the example above your fleetside should have weighed 4180lbs when new, they are planning on you putting 96% of the remaining payload in the rear and 4% on the front. So 7600GVW - 4180 Curb weight = 3420 payload x 0.96 = 3283.20lbs centered over rear axle and 136.8lbs spread onto front axle.

Whats odd to me is my 63 GMC long bed step 3\4t 2wd is 7500lbs GVW and a 4x4 of the same truck was 8100lbs, guessing the GMC's are just a hair lighter or heavier rating axle\springs\tires.

So I guess that is the answer. Assuming that 3/4 ton pickups of the era were rated to carry more weight than 1500 pounds. Your 3/4 ton GMC is rated at 7500 and the K series GMC 8100 according to their similar data plates. I was thinking my truck might have been an anomaly, but perhaps not based on your input. Thanks for your much appreciated comments.

1/2, 3/4, and 1t are weight categories not a net weight rating. The core trucks in each category are built heavier with each increase in category. You can equip a truck to carry greater weight than category indicates

'63 4x4 GMC 3/4t has a 7600lb GVW.

hmm I got the 8100 from 60-66gmc website but looks like he says the ratings are for 60-62 & 64-66 and that 63 should be about the same. So guessing its not lol.
