If you want personal message me an email address and I'll send you schematics this evening of wiper system and steering wheel controls.

OK I have stared at these schematics for almost an hour now. I have traced all the wires down And I don't find any issues with the wiring. The wires from the switch which there are only 3 of them goes directly to the wiper motor. I am getting power on the yellow wire going into the motor when the key is on. But no matter what position I put my switch in nothing happens on my wipers. I guess I'm looking at either having a bad switch or a bad wiper motor. I don't understand this as everything was working fine when it was taken apart. What I can't figure out is does the wiper switch just ground relays inside the wiper motor or does it apply voltage somehow?

Do you have ground on the black wire terminal A at the motor. There is also a connection c201 on the 2 of 2 picture I sent you. If this isn't connected nothing will work. C201 is the big connector block at base of column. Check all the terminals at that block make sure there are no bent terminals.

Yes the black wire is grounded. Yes the plug is pluged in. I will take it apart today and check for bent terminals. thanks.

Ok I went to the salvage yard today and picked up a wiper motor. I brought it back and plugged it in. When I turn on the key it just spins if the wiper switch is in the off position. If o turn on the wiper switch they turn and stop like it should. But why does it just spin when in the off position?

Re: 1972 Chevy Pickup Project.

Did you hook it up to the linkage and hook up the wiper arms? The wiper motors module may need to learn the stop position

Re: 1972 Chevy Pickup Project.

The motor itself just isn't a motor like the old one is it's also a module

Ok that may be my problem. I don't have the arms hooked up yet. I bet it needs to feel the stop position. I'll work on that tomorrow. Thanks Jason

Sure let me know how it works

Re: 1972 Chevy Pickup Project.

Ok I got the arm modified and put on with the salvage yard motor. When I turn on the key and the wiper switch in the off position the wipers just move back and forth like in high position. If I move it up one click they turn off. every click up from there works like they are suppose to including full speed. I still have no use of any of the steering wheel buttons. I wonder if i need to hook up the wiring harness that went to the rear of the tahoe. I noticed it has an yellow module hooked to that harness. It went to the seats and the passenger rear.

Try unplugging the wiper swich up at the column and turn key on. If wipers still go with key on there is probably a short to power. If they don't come on in off position maybe a bad switch.

OK I unplugged the switch and turn the key on and the wipers do not come on. As soon as I plugged the plug back in to the switch when it's in the off posiotion the wipers come on. So I assume I have a bad switch which is strange because it was working fine before.

Re: 1972 Chevy Pickup Project.

Sure sounds like a switch problem then.

Re: 1972 Chevy Pickup Project.

I will pick up a new switch. I still dont have any lights or working switches on the steering wheel. Also I noticed another thing. when I turn my steering wheel my horn dont work when the steering wheel is upside down. Im almost at the point where Im going to order an aftermarket steering wheel and forget all about those damn buttons...

Re: 1972 Chevy Pickup Project.

Clock spring under steering wheel is probably the culprit. If steering wheel wasn't taped straight ahead when column was taken out there easy to mess up.

The steering wheel was not taped down and probably got turned too much an broke the ribbon. I just watched a video on how a clock spring works and im shocked at how its litterally just a long flat cable spooled up with enough slack to allow it to turn from stop to stop. So im pretty sure at this point thats the problem with it.

So now to decide.....replace the clock spring and keep the steering wheel controls and the factory stereo, or...... replace the steering wheel with an aftermarket and do away with the controls, and put in a large touch screen in my center console.

Re: 1972 Chevy Pickup Project.

Yeah I have damaged them before and same issue. No horn no steering wheel controls etc. Those steering wheel switches also have issue with back lighting going out on the switches.

Re: 1972 Chevy Pickup Project.

You could also ditch the factory steering wheel and just keep the factory radio

That is true, but then again its a good excuse for the touchscreen stereo with navigation. lol
