73 Gauge cluster cleaning

Is there a specific cleaning product for cleaning up the gauge faces on the 70s clusters? I tried a little water on a rag and the paint started smearing. I'd like to try and shine them up but I'm scared of ruining it.

From my experience there is nothing you can use on these. Even soap and water will loosen the paint. I recommend a micro fiber cloth and just a gentle rub. If the gauge face is too bad, then you may want to consider finding replacements. Local salvage yards are always a good place to find what you need and also the parts board on this forum.

I pitched a few myself before I figured it out.

Good luck.
Tom

Yea I've tried all sorts of techniques with no success. Just smears the paint no matter what you do.
