Project FrankenTruckHD 1968 GMC on a 2006HD chassis
5 Attachment(s)
I pulled the trigger and started my build. I started on March 16th. The chassis was a 2006 Chevy 2500 HD long bed extended cab. The cab I'm using was a 1968 cab and chassis order and it had a 305 V-6 and granny low 4 speed. I shortened the HD chassis 23" because it was way too long. The plan is to make it look like an original 68 stake bed truck. But I'm adding stacks between the cab and bed. I have videos posted on youtube.

Here's the frame cut up. I did what some others have done, and I separated the welds, cut off 23", slipped it back together and welded it. I also cut off the cross member for the carrier bearing. It was in the way of the exhaust. I made the cab mounts from the leftover pieces of the frame that I cut off. I also made a new cross member, and salvaged the plate for the carrier bearing. :metal:

I suspended the cab from the rafters, and did my fitment. The cab fits pretty well, but I had to notch the back to fit around the frame. Because I'm using a stake bed, I'm making the cab sit a little lower. The cab is currently mounted, and I have the hydro boost master cylinder mounted. Fighting with steering column and brake pedal right now.
