Advice appreciated for system in 72 Burb

Guys,

For some reason, my knowledge about sound systems in vehicles never progressed past AM/FM. Seriously, if I had a good cam plus healthy exhaust I never cared about tunes.

So assume I know nothing and want decent sound for our 72 Suburban.

Searching through here at posts, I think a Retrosound head, kick panel speakers, maybe an amp and speakers behind the rear seats might be good. Maybe a bass speaker hidden away....I just don't know.

So I am pretty clueless and I appreciate any and all advice.

You going to cut the dash? If so go with a nice blue tooth single din. You can add a sub and bass behind the seats and put some kick panels in it with 3 ways. I haven't ever owned a 3 door so it's a matter of what you want and what you willing to cut to get it.
Very nice 3 door by the way.

Thanks Andy, appreciate the bounce back.

I like the new lettering you put on your truck.

Doug,

So my opinions will be based on zero knowledge of the older burbs. I'd say a nice head unit, (2) pairs if 6.5" coaxials and a nice amp would sound good. If you want more low-end then a sub and amp (or nice 5-channel for everything) would really round out the sound. While not a Retrosound dealer I can help with everything else as I'm a dealer for quite a bit of nice 12volt lines.

Thanks!

If you are looking for something a little different!

I have made several pair of these for the golf carts I build.
They match the paint to!

Give me a shout if you want.

Thanks, its finally "done" so its time to enjoy it. I put a 10-speaker soundbar, a 500-watt amp and 10" sub in it. It jams pretty good for a glorified 4-wheeler  :metal:

I personally like the look of the stock stereo. Im not a stereo guy but put one in a customers 66 and its now my favorite part of the truck.

If it has a stock stereo or delete plate I would find a 4 channel amp that has built it bluetooth. Hide that under the seat. A set of kick panels with speakers and I also have a plate that puts 2 modern 4" speakers in the stock speaker location under the dash. produces a great sound. If you want a little bass the a 8"-10" sub with a amp will help that. I think a big key to making good quality sound is buying quality components that are paired with each other correctly

Who makes the best fitting/looking kick panels? I've been looking, but haven't found anything that I like.

I have to agree haven't done much on anything as old or nice as yours is but you get what you pay for and how much time and effort you put into adding a stereo system. Go with good quality products and take your time so you only have to do it once. I think 4 speakers of your choosing on size and a single 10" sub should give you plenty of volume to jam out with.
