'74 Blazer: 3 heater hoses?

Doing an engine drop in a '74 Blazer. The heater hose nipple on the radiator was a new one to me :) Can anyone advise why the heater hose to the water pump y-s to the radiator??

i only had the rad and block on my long truck. i would eliminate the y
