If I’m trying to buy a pre ‘71 tandem tractor. Any model or any condition what’s the best place to look?

Bob,

Since they had a lot of changes over there, I haven't been able to get back on that site for years now. After many tries, I just gave up. Your reply reminded me to try again and to my surprise, it worked. But the forums are filled up with spam. Isn't anyone minding the store over there?

Don't know what's going on. I heard that the 'management' does not care too much about the forum (not sure if anyone is even moderating it) and is putting all their resources into the magazine and national shows. Might be true, the magazine is the best it's ever been. The forums at 'justoldtrucks.com' as taken over from the ATHS as the besy old commercial truck forum.

Yeah, I switched over to Just Old Trucks when it was created. Always knew that ATHS continued though. That said, the Trucks For Sale site that you posted still works good I see. Nice R-Model from NC on there that I would not had mind owning. With all their members, too bad they don't let someone run their site. It used to be great. Had a lot of fun there too back in the old days.

Agree, nice photo. Note this one has a tag axle. IMO, the original owners of these types of trucks were generally large fleets, such as oil companies. After they get sold off to small time operators, they get a new paint job. Many get several color changes over a lifetime.

Nice mixer. Looks brand new. One heck of a truck back in it's day.

Not sure what series it is, but the lumber yard I worked for that had a '62 GMC 6500 and a '71 GMC 9500 on order had just taken a '54 GMC like that mixer off the road. I had just started working there and saw it in the back yard and one day at lunch time, I went to check it out and it was gone. Just hauled off the day before. Not only did I miss driving it, I didn't even get a chance to check it out, lol. Had what I believe was a 503-6 with a 5-Speed Trans and a 2-Speed Rear.
