Now ain't that a purdy Cannonball? I love the GMC slippin' around the sheep herd, too.

It's under the weight class of Heavy Haulers, but yesterday I looked at a '55 GMC 100 for sale along the road. Fresh out of the barn with '91 stickers. faded Woodland Green, white trim, 19s, Factory stake body bed w/high sides, all there. It has it's rust but I'd love to restore that one. Asking $3,500 or best offer. I got pictures with my phone but don't post to the internet with that. I'll be doing a job up that way next week and will be sure to carry my camera along

Cool truck. Tell us more about it, Trans, GVW, etc.

Also, have we seen your '64 B7000 yet?

The toro flo is a 1965 GMC 5000 tractor that pulled a single axle dump trailer (that i also have) it has a five speed trans with a two speed rear axle, not sure of the specs on either. Also not sure of the GVW so any help would be appreciated. The 1964 GMC B7000 is an old winch truck, it has a 671 Detroit with a 5 speed main box, 4 speed auxiliary, and a power tower. Both trucks were my great grandpas at one time and have been in the family since he got them. :gmc2:

Re: GM Semis

The Tag including the GVW should be on the driver's side kick panel. Also check the Tag inside on the glove box door.

The B7000 sure looks like an interesting truck.

Re: GM Semis

I've looked at the tag in the glovebox before but it is painted over so you can't read it worth a crap.

Was the 3 horn trucks just a spec checkmark or trim level?

That's a good question! From '66 to '68, GMC offered special 'Western' long-nose 9500's, the MH and MI 9501. 8V-71 or 6-71, Road Ranger or 5X4 transmissions, lots of light weight components including Alcoa wheels. Chrome Grover triple horns were an option, and most 9501's pictured in GMC ads and brochures (both photographs and drawings) show the triple horns. I can say over half of the 9501's that I have ever seen had triple horns. The 9501 model was discontinued in 1969, but all the individual 'Western' options continued to be available on MH-9500's.

Re: GM Semis

I've only seen one Long Nose with a 6-71. It was a '68 (no Triple Horns) and the strange thing about it was it had a 5-Speed Trans and a 2-Speed Rear, which was another thing I've never seen before in a Long Nose. Was an Ex-Fire Truck.

I always thought is was interesting that the crackerbox I was around in the 70's with 6-71 had no drive belts. Generator and p/s pump ran off rear gear train and the fan was direct on the crankshaft nose. It was a cold ride in the winter.

TV70, 6V-53 Detroit. Made more noise than power. Sleeper cab Steel Tilts are rare.

At first I thought the negative was reversed on the GMC Steel Tilt picture, but I see now that it's not! Australia? The Coast Grain unit was from Norwalk, CA., 6V-71 powered. It was featured in GMC Truck News when it was new.

Re: GM Semis

Bob,

Are those stacks factory on the Coast Grain truck?

Nice 9500 by the way. But with those Directional Lights the way they have them, I can't tell if it's a '66-'67 or a '68-'69, lol.

Bob B. 05-11-2023 01:38 AM

Re: GM Semis

I don't think those stacks are factory, I think the stock ones were attached to the cab along with horizontal mufflers. My guess on the 9500 is it's a '66-'67 with extra directional lights. I don't see side markers. It's a CI or CH 9500 with a tag axle.

Interesting pictures.

I'm sure glad they didn't choose the center picture style.
