door dolly
 

On a recent airing of Trucks they were installing a door on a C10 pickup using a roll around dolly/adjusable rack. I have been trying to locate who manufactures this device, for my friends body shop. Anybody got a clue where to find one of them?

Please post the result you found...sounds intriguing!

The only thing I could think of would have been an
adjustable panel dolly which I don't think goes low enough.

I found one similar online @ Auto Body Toolmart it is the Champ 1415 Door and Bumper dolly.

Thanks for starting this thread. That looks to be a very handy tool and at $249, pretty
affordable for what you are getting. In fact, I think I'll share the link with a friend

I agree i am are ordering one for myself to use in the shop i work in. Can't say how many bumpers i have had to wrestle with only the aid of a floor jack, and forget the doors i have done. A tool that will pay for itself many times over !!

Make one yourself to use with your floor jack...

I came up with a door installation fixture while re-assembling a Fairlane as these doors were quite heavy and we didn't need any paint chips....

I had seen some of the cradle style that you could add to your floor jack, but I have a problem how the cradle supports the complete weight of the door across the lower edge of a door skin. Too much risk of paint damage in my view. So I came up with another version that would support the weight across a wider area on the inner door, for less risk of damage to any visible area.

Here's the basic form, with some pipe receivers using set screws. The support braces are bent from electrical EMT and covered in pipe insulation to protect the finish..

The support braces also help to keep the door oriented in a vertical position, to keep the door from flopping back and forth (as you may experience with the cradle style). This will help prevent paint damage/chips from excessive door movement during the install.

Once hinges are snug, loosen set screws for outer support brace, lower a couple inches, remove outer support brace, and simply pull jack toward rear of car to clear door.

I like that idea! I made a gas tank support for my floor jack (12X6X1/4" plate and chunk of rod) so that is righ up my ally.

Harbor frieght use to have a door dolly/jack. Either Glock or the Gatorhyde guy in Colorado had one.

Something I neglected to mention, the "pivot" I used was unbolted from my b-i-l's transmission jack adapter, but the hole in the floor jack should be 1.90" diameter. This equates to a piece of 1-1/2 schedule 80 pipe, for those looking to make one.
