Do you need one with bracket for the block or the style that taps directly into the block? Small block? I have one with the bracket.

Most of the aftermarket shops have some of the parts. Look at Truck Shop, Filling Station or Pickups Northwest.

I just need the bar itself. I have a new big block crate motor in it, and there is not a hole in the block for the stud I ordered a bracket and did some mods to get it to fit. I have all other brackets. I just thought since Im replaceing everything else on the truck, the z-bar would not hurt to get new. The bar just needs to be for a 4x4, all the aftermkt shops sell 2wd ones.

Sorry to sound dumb but what is a Z-bar...what does it do?? Thanks

Its the clutch bar that rotates from the frame to the block.

Mines a 2wd, so I guess it won't work(?). I don't know anything about 4wd - sorry I couldn't help.

I have one from a 70 4x4 $20 plus shipping.

What's the condition of it? Is it new or rebuilt, do you have a picture?

Thanks,
Bad

this is probably a stupid question, but, how do you rebuild a Z-bar? all there is too them is a tube, an alimite, a ball, and a thing to hold the ball and grease in right? (or thats all i remember when i took one apart)

BAD4X4 05-04-2003 10:12 PM

there is a seat, stud, seat, seal, spring,in this order is what is inside to rebuild, I can get all of this from yearone but let me put it this way I have $10,000 just under the hood so I figuerd everything should be new...

bad4x4, do you hvae any pics of your rides?

BAD4X4 05-04-2003 10:51 PM

GMC 71-

Email me your address and I will send you pics of them all if you want. The 70 is my current project and in 1000 pieces, the others are all put together. My crewcab is my daily driver, I shortened the frame and put a short box on it, and got it back together, still needs a bunch of work, but it all takes time, I'm really concentrating on my 70 right now, collecting parts and pieces and getting it ready for paint. My 86 has been done for a while now, but I need to sell it to fund the 70's paint and finish paying for the motor. My Tahoe is the wife's, it's reliable and we use it for traveling, so let me know and I can certainly e-mail you some pics.

Thanks
Dana

Do not know if it is rebuilt or not, I will remove it tonight and send you a pic or two of it. I got the truck with a rebuilt motor recently and am pulling the motor and tranny for a LS1/auto swap.
