th400 kick down

I understand that the th400 kickdown is vacuum actuated as opposed to cable. I need to install one, but have not found a thread here that shows or discusses an install. Anyone know of a thread or other site/video showing install? I have a holley carb on a 350 and th400 trans. Thanks.

Re: th400 kick down

No, a TH400 is an electrical kickdown. The vacuum connection controls when it shifts up but not down. There should be an electrical connection on the driver side, IIRC. Apply 12 volts to it, it kicks down. Depending on the vehicle, they had an electric switch that mounted to the carb and the arm would contact or under the dash with a bracket and the gas pedal arm hit it. My first C10, someone had just put a switch under the dash so you could manually down shift and hold it in gear. Turn the switch off and it would shift like normal.

Great. Looks like there is a 72 inch version as well 72 inch version as well. I think that version would be too long. Also looks like i need to buy the mounting bracket mounting bracket to attach the cable to carb.

Is this something a putz like me can do in my garage? Anything transmission related scares me.

Super easy to do. I bought these exact same parts, installed in about An hour. Hardest part was routing the electrical neatly.

I'm holding you to that "hour". ;) Thanks everyone for helping me out. I've made the order. Hopefully the weekend will provide some time for install. Then I'm off to burn some rubber. :metal: I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Why would an electric whatever need a cable? The ones I've seen are a plunger switch activated by the carb when it goes WOT.
You could fab one up with a momentary switch and 3' of wire.

Re: th400 kick down

The cable actuates the plunger inside the aluminum housing mounted to the trans. That makes a contact inside the housing and activates the trans kick down. All you see in the engine compartment is a cable. Nice and sanitary.
