While not a truck this is a good example of fake patina...I posted it in a previous patina thread and I guess it's worth re-posting.

Also notice that the real ones almost always have black primer on the dog house, and red oxide on the cab and bed.

That's how mine is. I wonder why that is.

Hood and front fenders got a different primer on some of our trucks. But some also had black primer all over.

Check out this thread OEM Primer Thread

Nice truck Kieth. Here's one my son and I are working on. He did not want to drive it with the paint like it was. It is shiney orange and white now. Lots of real patina pics in my sig.

My 61 GMC Sub has original patina and the primer on the hood and fenders is black, red on the body. The hood is a replacement later one without the Buck Rodgers intake scoops and it follows the black primer hood rule.

When I found mine, I asked the same question. I was told by two different old timers that the cabs where put together and prepped at a different facility.

Thanks Malibob. I too dug the 45 year old patina finish. I found it sitting at an old ranch in Ca. I pulled off the body and set it aside while I gave the chassis and drive train a complete update. The truck may look like a beater but, it drives like a new car. Sean

Its also chopped down (it was a long bed).

So i was thinking a faux job might look okay, if I took my time and did it right. Do any of Y'all have tips?
How would it look to take it down to the sheet metal in places and do a diesel oil finish? I'm just rattling off ideas here.

Thanks dudes.

your paint job could be saved if you wanted to. ive seen worst and was able to restore the paint, I would color sand and buff it you might be supprised how it comes out. just take your time when color sanding.

Wow, that is one of the best looking knee knockers I've seen. Do you have a build thread on it? Is that a static drop? That looks awesome.

Perfect combination for these trucks, IMO. :metal:
I wish I could find a truck with original paint and that sweet patina around here! I need to make a trip out West...

heres mine. Not faux-tina but the real deal. It sure looked good after buffing too. Now I AM going faux-tina because the truck got crashed and the likelihood of finding a complete palomino tan front clip in my price range (free...) is very unlikely.

So I think I'm gonna go light blue and white or light green and put the original wheels and caps back on.
