Now: Where do I find the "Idiot's Guide To Making Fiberglas Parts" How to pull this all together?
ask and ye shall receive :D

seriously, just ask away. i did all of my fiberglass in a finished painted cab, no doors or interior, but everything i did inside or under hood was in a finished cab. gotta remember that i did the column cover, valence (fascia), console and sub enclosure as one piece of artwork.

look at this pic to see the bones of my fascia/column cover, light stuff is wood, dark stuff is cardboard mailing tube. i started out with a few brackets that were welded to the dash for a simple sheetmetal fascia that sorta sucked. i made a plywood L with a couple dados cut to staple cardboard into.

the tube is 4", i cut it into half and quarter radiuses on the table saw and started stapling, gluing and taping in place. i went thru a lot of supper glue during fiberglass work. start shaping and taping until you like the shape. it's pretty easy and vey time consuming and maybe a little addictive... :D

the compound curve used the tube inside for the top and pie cut tube on the bottom; there's 12 pieces just in the left side of the fascia

the column cover uses a piece of mdf for the top U, mdf squares for mounting blocks to the column and half tube piece. this is the first full layer of 3/4 oz matt (used for all my glass work), there are probably 4 or 5 layers of 3/4 oz matt on the fascia and console. 7 to 9 layers of 3/4oz matt on the sub enclosure

most of my tape, wood and cardboard is still there as part of the structure impregnated with resin. some of the cardboard was removed

Hi Dan,

I may have found the car version of the one in the first couple of pictures.
https://www.trifive.com/threads/eckl...8/post-1782965

completeautoupholstery.com seems to have gone down between 2019 and 2020 but there are archived versions. https://web.archive.org/web/20190104...pholstery.com/

Contact information is also available in archives including an owner name:
https://web.archive.org/web/20130212...ry.com/contact

They do have a facebook page as well
https://www.facebook.com/CompleteAut...=page_internal

with some photos
https://www.facebook.com/CompleteAut...44686415587277

In all honesty, I would send these folks the pictures of the truck dash valance with a question about the source.

First, thanks so much for this information^^^

I wonder if the car one would work on the truck though I doubt it because the center section was made to go under the car's centered glove box door. (Besides, I can't say I really like the way it looks. But I LOVE the ones in the pictures posted)

But you're right that contacting these people and asking about the ones in the pictures I posted. I don't know if I could get them interested in developing one for the Task Force trucks but I'll try. Otherwise I have to take on the fiberglas job and I REALLY don't relish it.

PS: Neither of those Complete Upholstery links work. I posted pictures of the green & orange ones on the Facebook page. Hopefully someone sees it and responds!

I sent a message to No Limit to see if they have any installed pics of the extension. All my vintage air parts are in so I'm probably going to order one and modify it as needed

Thanks a lot for posting these pictures. They tells me there's a lot of "cut to fit, bend to suit, paint to match" to make the form for a valence!

Maybe I'm not seeing it but is there a flange that will bolt/screw to the underside of the dash?

I hadn't thought of it but the "roughness" of the joints between the various pieces disappear once they're covered in 'glas. I thought they'd telegraph through the cloth/resin but I suppose if they do just add more and sand them smooth after!

Re: Who Sells This Under Dash Valence?

Dan ,
You can add a 90* aluminum 3/4" or 1" strip or pieces to the fiberglass blank with mounting holes pre drilled for the underside of the dash after the blank is released from the buck . Just glass them in . Probably wouldn't hurt to add larger holes to the side that bonds to the blank so the fiberglass has a stronger grip on the blank .

The fiberglass will give you general shape and structure , then "Bondo" will give you close to final shape , then lots of sanding to refine the finished shape . Now your ready for paint .

You've got this , have fun with it . :)

nice to see someone else make their own dash fascia/valence
there's no wrong way, unless you don't make one for fear of the work :D
i did the same with fiberglassed in screws, you can see one in my pic above
if you plan on using the glove box door, might want to install it, it'll need a cutout to operate
be sure to plug in the ignition, dimmer and nss, that's the bump outs on my column cover

I'm procrastinating like hell on this primarily because I WANT the one in the original pictures I posted - the ones in the green & orange trucks. I love how it looks and IF I ever try making one I'll be trying to duplicate that look.

I feel certain SOMEONE has to make it only because these two trucks seem to have the identical piece. If one of you noticed a significant difference in those two pictures, please let me know.

The 2nd reason I am procrastinating is because I did a little fiberglas work many years ago (high school, ha ha) and I remember it being an itchy, hot, stinky mess of a job. NOT looking forward to doing that again. But I'll have to if that's my only alternative to get what I want. Ogre, I won't be making a cover for the steering column. Mine is an ididit column I picked up cheap on Craigslist and asked until I did the truck. It's stainless and I had it polished so I want to be able to see it.

I did some image surfing. couldn't find anything on the orange one but found the green one. owner and shop that built it is listed. you might be able to track him down on FB. Also seen the truck in an "Arizona car scene" article

Thanks for the link, Kevin. I had seen that article before - I’ve kept all the pictures of course.

I hadn’t thought to try to contact the owner but now I’ve put in a friend request on Facebook. No idea if he’ll ever reply but at least I’ve made the effort. Thanks again, Dan

orge is a big round fruit, this ogre is neither round, nor a fruit
i should get a cab and make a buck to produce these dash valences

but as dan reminds me...
i'm retired, don't want to, don't need to and you can't make me :D
so blame dan for my lack of interest :D:D:D

hey Ogre havent been on forum i n a bit busy working on truck paint guy wants it back end of oct so the work frenzy continues. Valence i did do some sanding on last couple days. not missing the itch from fiberglass sanding . used round glue container wrapped it in sandpaper to get corners. cut out for radio in main section soon before i finish it.

Thanks but we discussed this back in post #17 on the first page. I've been tempted to buy that one but it seems too short for the round AC vents I want to use. If it were maybe 3/4" to 1" taller it would be perfect.

I'm still tempted to get it though because the hard work has already been done and if I REALLY disliked the height (and already had $130 in it) then I'd consider splitting it and lengthening it.

Hey Dan, I tried reaching out to No Limit a couple times and never heard back. I can no longer find it listed on their web page so I might have to go the Ogre route

one thing i notice about no limit one is it has round bosses for ac vents it you not going ac you would have to cover them.

Yeah, I noticed that too. At first I didn't really care for it but then after searching online for AC vents I wasn't all that taken by any that weren't round so I guess I'm ok with it I jut think it's shorter than I would prefer.
