1951 project?
 

Thanks for welcoming me to the site Ive been reading the forums here as a visitor for about three years now. Its time to get my long awaited project under way. i need to know what steel lines i would need to replace the brakeline. asfar as lenghts size and qty. also i need to clean out the gas tank whats the best way to do that.

Welcome to the forum. My suggestion, if you're not familiar enough with tubing to know the size by sight, would be to take some of the old line off and take it with you to the auto parts store. At my local stores, 5 feet is as long as is available. So, measure what you think the total you'll need, buy a few unions and start bending.
I've done a bunch of brake line replacements and I'd highly recommend this tool:

It won't work on trans cooler lines or fuel lines, but it makes brake line bends super easy. Be sure to double flare your ends on brake lines.

buy your brake line in 25 a foot roll and get a good flaring tool. I think I got a package with the tools/ line and fittings from Jeggs.. you can make the lines the correct length and avoid unions. every connection is a possible leak so the fewer the better

If you aren't comfortable with flaring the line, just buy lengths at NAPA. They have a rack that you can get the stuff in various lengths.

I'm NOT comfortable doing it. Especially since my kids will be driving the trucks! That is why I buy it that way. With more experience, sure, no problem. For now, NO!

thanks guys for the help. i still need to clean the gas tank out over all the out side of the tank is great still is silver on the bottom side. i was expecting rust. the inside is another story. the gas dried in there about 6 years ago the varnish smell was gone. it has a oil sticky film on the inside. i put parts cleaner in with some nuts and bolts slushed it around it looks better, but man that bad gas smell is back with avengence. is there any beter way? I planned on cleaning and using a tank sealer. any ideas?
