Recommendations on where to buy new leaf springs and shocks?
 

I'm in the market for new leaf springs and shocks. I'm looking at a 4" EZ Ride kit from Tuff Country or Skyjacker. Any suggestions on vendor?

More detail: I purchased a Blazer a few months back that has a (supposedly) 4" lift kit on it running 35x12.5 r20 BF KO2s. The lift has a 4" block in the back and Rancho 5000 shocks. The current ride quality is horrible. Driving down the freeway I swear I got air when I hit a small bump. Additionally, the front wheel well exposure is 9.5" from the top of the tire while the rear is 8".

I figure a good set of known springs and some nice shocks will make the ride 100% better.

Hate to break this news to you but the springs you are looking at will most likely not be any better than the ones on the truck now. I have owned all three brands you mentioned. If you want a good ride be prepared to pony up, $1,200-$1,500 for four springs. Go to Atlas, Alcan or Deaver in no particular order. With the right shocks the ride will be 100% better.

Well, I’m definitely willing to spend more to get the best ride. I’ll check them out.
As for the current ride, it’s is borderline dangerous at high speed. I’m not taking about the bucking but just the lack of any absorption of any bump. If both my front hit the same bump, hold on, we are going for a ride.

I'm pleased with the ride with my stock height, zero lift Alcan springs and Delco Pleasurizer shocks. The teflon liners above and below the spring packs seem to take a fraction of the "edge" off too. Any reason you want to stick with a 4" lift?

I’d love to lower it but I’m riding on 35x12.5s. If I could lower it then the most I would get is maybe an inch.

I have a 4" Skyjacker kit, but 3/4 ton springs. The Pro Comp shocks in the kit were fine, but I like the Bilstein's I have now better. I actually like the ride better than my wife's 2015 Tahoe 4x4. The ride is stiff, but stable at all speeds. I catch air regularly, but only when I'm trying to. The Bilstein's are a couple of years old, but the original kit was installed about 15 years ago.

Do you happen to remember the Bilsteins you used? I’d rather go with those than the kit provided.

The 5100's are a pretty good shock without getting into the remote res stuff. Run them on my 94.

Thanks. I’ll take a look at them. Maybe I’ll put those on first and check the ride before I swap the leafs.

This is purely a mall crawler so remote reservoir would be major overkill.

I still have pro comps on the back. It’s the fronts with steering, braking, and engine weight that get worked the most

I'm in the process of planning a step-down from a 4" (I think) to either a 3" or 2". My plan is to use the ORD custom spring, and maybe do a shackle flip on the rear. With these trucks, especially with lifted high-arc springs, the shocks don't contribute nearly as much to the overall ride quality as the springs do.

Be aware the shackle flip slightly shifts the placement of the rear axle in the wheel well. Moves it closer the front edge. Never was a bid deal when I did that to a k20 I used to own, but it is noticeable.

Call the guys at Alcan spring, they'll take the time to get you set up with what you need.

I had a 4" Skyjacker Softride lift on my old '72 Blazer. It rode decent and didn't beat you up but felt a little too soft to me but it may have had more to do with the 35x12.50x15 tires and how much sidewall there was making it feel even softer when cornering. I made regular 6+ hour long trips in it without feeling fatigued or tossed around- could've used cruise control but the ride was decent.
