Seat brackets to swap bench to buckets?

I just ordered a set of buckets to replace the bench in the from of my Burb. Whats the best mounting method? I know Corbeau and TMI offer cull width bench brackets that will mount two buckets and provide a mounting place for a center console, but I think Id like to leave the space between the two seats open for now. Thoughts on best mounting option??

Thanks

Re: Seat brackets to swap bench to buckets?

Probably get a better response on the truck side of the board since so many folks have put aftermarket buckets, or off brand stuff in their trucks. Would be basically the same for your burb.

Bucket seat mounting options??

I just ordered a set of buckets to replace the bench in my '72 Burb. Just curious what you guys have found to be the best method for mounting aftermarket buckets in these trucks.

Thanks!

Re: Bucket seat mounting options??

See my post this morning in parts. I have a set of buckets for sale that came with a floor mount that appears to be nicely built. Appears to have all pre drilled holes, mounts for console etc. it came with a truck I bought but will have to see if there is a name of part number on box.

Re: Bucket seat mounting options??

What buckets did you buy ? Did you check the width and height of the seat bottom ? Because many of the aftermarket seats are narrow and low leaving you with large gaps between the seats and the door panels also the drivers seat needs to be centered with the steering wheel or you'll be sitting off center driving down the road , What seat tracks are you using ? Lots of questions to be answered when switching over to buckets , It's more than just drilling holes and bolting them to the floor . :chevy:

The Burb area barely moves so if you have anything that isn’t very specific to Burbs only, you’re always better to ask on the truck side IMO

Without more specific information on your new seats it is difficult to help. Here is a link to seat thread that have some mounting photos that may provide you with inspiration. And if you see your seats there might be a build thread linked with information.
Otherwise you may have to post some pictures of the seats for good feedback.

Re: Bucket seat mounting options??

Factory 69-72 bucket trucks had a significantly reinforced floor. Do a search on it. People on the parts board often sell salvaged components and a few have repopped some of the steel reinforcing parts. If GM in 69 figured the floor needed beefing up for buckets I can assure that a non bucket floor is not safe with a couple washers thrown under the floor at the bolt positions.

Re: Bucket seat mounting options??

As I mentioned I did not purchase these seats, they came with truck when I purchased it from previous owner. He ordered them direct for that application and received floor mount as well for this truck. I have not tried to fit them in my truck as I never planned on using them. I have boxes them back up for shipping if someone should purchase so I cannot measure them at this time. I did measure for another buyer on FB if I still have message I can get back to you with measurements.

Re: Bucket seat mounting options??

I would like to see the threads or information regarding factory bucket cabs with reinforced floor vs the bench cab floor. Would be something I never heard of but would love to know the differences as a gain of knowledge into these trucks. It would be hard to imagine they had two floor options as far as assembly line with flow. Did they switch line up to build these on certain days, months or ???

Re: Bucket seat mounting options??

Thanks guys....understood on the floor reinforcement using the factory brackets. I was hoping with the popularity of these trucks, someone would offer aftermarket bucket seat mounts that use the factory bucket seat mounting location. I'm still working on tracking down whoever was selling the bench to bucket reinforcement parts a while back.

Seats I went with are Cobra LeMans seats with the same vinyl/fabric combo as the factory bench along with shaved down thigh bolsters.

Re: Bucket seat mounting options??

I made adapters that bolt to the stock seat mounts and then allowed the replacement seats to bolt to those. This is on the kids Jimmy. In the front we used BMW E46 M3 sport seats with the built in 3 pt belts and in the rear the adapter allowed a square body Sub fold and tumble rear seat to just lock in.

Yea, thats what I did with the Vette....trying to find the lazy route and avoid fabricating the adapters....thought maybe since C10s were so popular, especially with the Pro Touring crowd now that someone might offer something off the shelf.

Would a complete set of suburban mounting brackets be of a interest to you? They can from a 76 burb.

Re: Bucket seat mounting options??

This is the thread I did when I converted my truck to buckets.

https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=845608

In short I used 66/67 Chevelle bucket seat tracks and made my own risers and adaptors on the seat frame. Then on the floor I used the stock bench seat holes on the outside on both sides and then put a strap across and dilled new holes to hold the strap down. Then I drilled and countersunk some screws to act as studs in the strap. Thats all under the carpet and only the 4 studs poke up for the seat to bolt to. Its setup so I can easily remove the seats and console by myself if I need to yank the tank for any reason.
