Delay Wipers-use Ford switch and module?
 

I have read a bunch on adding delay wipers. I can't seem to find a definitive answer. I recently made a '66 Mustang have delay wipers by using a 1980 switch and delay module from an F150. Common bolt-on mod for early Mustangs. But it got me thinking, both Ford and 67-72s seem to use a 2 speed non-recessed-park wiper motor. Both seem to switch the ground. Has anyone tried using a Ford switch and delay module with a 67-72 motor? The F150 switch I got had a long "D" shaped shaft that I cut off in the Mustang, so I think it could work with the stock knob with a little work.

That is what I was thinking of trying when I get to that point.

I remember years ago working on a 1980 F__D truck.
And it had a System that I thought might just work.

Interesting ... 68Bowtie4x4 in the parts forum that is getting ready to make a box thing.

Which I have signed up for but if this thing works and you can't tell from the outside you have a FORD part in your truck, then this solution must be better than a box and a added switch.

It's only been a (FEW) years since I have messed with it.
It will work.

Exactly! On the Mustang you just unplug from the back of the original switch and plug that in. It is a bolt-on. You could either cut the plug off or get a Ford plug and splice it in. I don't see why it won't work-and almost more importantly-use the 67-72 wiper motor.

I got mine from the pick-a-part for $20 I think. Way less than that $119 on Ebay. I think the switch and delay module are 74-86 Ford trucks. The delay module may also come from other applications, but I don't know that.

How does the washer function work on the ford switch? Could the delay box be made to work with the 72 chevy switch?

It has a spade terminal that goes hot when you push the switch in so simple to hook up to a separate wiper pump/bottle.

Here is a YouTube, it's all about doing this on a Ford but talks about the switch and connector a bit. You can also see how the washer works (and points out which wire it is that goes hot).

I also been looking for a Ford Wiper Switch/Motor diagram but so far this is the only one I been able to find (image attached). It is user created but it seems it is switching power from Off, Low, High.

I found A wiring diagram for a 1978 Bronco which is supposed to be same as F150. The diagram seems to indicatate that the wiper motor is grounded and requires 12v+ to run. Course I could be reading wrong. Although a couple of relays would solve.

When you turn the wiper switch from off to low the wiper does one sweep and delays about 6 seconds.
Turn the switch to high and back to low and the wipers will sweep and delay about 3 seconds.
Turn the switch to high and back again and the delay will about 1.5 seconds.
Turn the switch again and the wipers will operate without delay in slow speed.
Turn the switch from off to high and the wipers operate in high speed as normal.
To go from off to slow with no delay turn switch to high and once the wipers start to operate turn switch to slow and they will operate in slow with no delay.
If your in slow and want to have a delay turn the switch to off and back and you will have minimum delay.
Another turn to off and back and you would have the 3 second delay.
It sounds a bit complicated but in real life I don't even think about it when I use the wipers.
