Any thoughts on this?
I've had a couple of projects in the past but never gone as far as putting a motor in a truck. I came up with how I want to build the engine for my truck and I'd like some input on the combo. First off, the truck is a 1972 chevy c10, 2wd, th350 tranny, 12bolt with a 3.73 rearend and 29" tall tires. My direction with this truck is to have something fun to drive that's pretty quick at the same time. I might occasionally take it to the drag strip if I get a wild hair but it will mostly just be a weekend toy. I will list the combo that I want to use on this engine, please feel free to give any thoughts on any of the parts used.
406 sbc I'm looking to run 9.5-10.1 compression Patriot 64cc aluminum freedom series heads Comp cams Extreme energy 274h hydralic flat tappet cam Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold Holley 750cfm vacuum secondary carb 1.5 roller rocker arms The truck already has long tube headers with dual 2.5" exhaust. If I left out any information, please let me know but that's my plan so far. What's everything will work together? |
Re: Any thoughts on this?
Depending what your budget is, I would put a hyd. roller cam instead of the flat tappet that way, you don't have to worry about what kind of oil you run. Second, I would look at a better set of heads. For example, your running an Edelbrock Perf. RPM intake, I'd run their RPM heads or a set of AFR heads. AFR has a good tech dept. that, you can call or email your comb too. Just my $.02

Re: Any thoughts on this?
I realize that this is the drag section, but I felt like I could get better responses on building an engine in this section than the other section. The holley 750 that I'm looking at is a double pumper carb.
