Load Capacity
What would the load capacity be from my 1965 c60? its a 292 4/2 truck. I know that my truck has the 15000 lbs rear axle, so does that mean my truck loaded will be 15000?

Re: Load Capacity
Mike,
You add the rating of the front axle and the rating of the rear axle for the total weight. Then take you truck to a scale and weight it empty. Subtract that value from the total value and you will know how heavy of a load you can carry. Flat67 |
Re: Load Capacity
Gotta ya, I know it weighs 8600 lbs empty, how would I determine which front axle I have, I didn't see a tag or anything on it.

Re: Load Capacity
Also go by your GVW Rating on the Tag. It should be the same as the Front and Rear Axel Rating totals (although I've seen them different). Unless you prove your case different, the GVW Tag is what the Law will be going by. Weigh your truck as mentioned above, then subtract it from the GVW to get your total.

Re: Load Capacity
Bill where is the GVW tag located? I've seen it on the door in later model trucks but I don't have a tag on the door in this truck, can it be located anywhere else?

Re: Load Capacity
The reason for all this is I went and got a load of gravel with it yesterday, and because I wasn't paying attention I feel the loader operator overloaded the truck, I got the truck home fine, kinda a slow go over a couple hills, after I got home and dump and spread gravel I went back and looked at the weight ticket, 15,440 lbs, I wanna use the old truck while I'm fixing it up and certainly don't wanna do anything that will cause it damage, I've enjoyed playing with this truck more than I have any of my 1/2 tons. I'm just trying to figure out what I can safely carry and not do any damage.

Re: Load Capacity
Mike,
It should be on the Drivers Side Kick Panel. I also seem to remember some on the Drivers Side Door Jamb, near the bottom on the door striker side. Bill |
