6.2 any good?
Hey guys,
As you may or may not know, I've been looking for a 78-91 K30 for a while, and I've seen a few with 6.2's in them that where pretty nice, but I have no knowledge of these engines at all. Obviously they could be converted to Cummins no different than a small block or big block, but if I buy a truck I'd prefer to not have to do an engine swap. Ideas, suggestions? I'm at a loss. BTW the main use for this truck will be pulling trailers and hauling stuff. We need a heavier duty truck for on the farm. Thanks |
Re: 6.2 any good?
How heavy of use are we talking here? The 6.2s can do work but you need to drive them a certain way to keep them alive IMO. There are a couple of good 6.2 guys on here that can give you some good pointers I'm sure.

Re: 6.2 any good?
It won't be super heavy duty or all the time use. I would like to buy a 18-20 foot non gooseneck trailer and haul fertilizer, equipment...what ever we need within reason, probably a 10-12k gvw trailer.

I have one I can't get rid of. I was contemplating putting it in my truck, but I am selling the truck and I have too much stuff and it is now in my way.

Re: 6.2 any good?
I had a 1/2 ton 89 model with a 6.2. It got great mileage and lasted a long time , it had like 100K on it when I rebuilt the truck, used it to pull my racecar and wrecks on my trailer and it sat up at 279 and I let it sit too long and would have still ran but needed a tune up. Instead of a tune up I did a 5.3 LS conversion on the truck then drove it a couple months then parked it again and it still sits to this day but I loved the 6.2 wished it had a little more power, there are some guys that boost them and put in hotter pumps and injectors and make decent power. Now you got me thinking about my 71 one ton. I still have that 6.2 sitting out to the side of my shop....HMMM...
