I ran chevelle headers on my big block 4wd. Hydro clutch need to moved but no big deal.

Re: headers

I always run full-length. You just have to look at the rear tube on the driver side and make sure it goes straight down or slightly forward. The only other possible issue is if they don't drop down enough to clear the lower arm on the bell-crank. I've had to cut that off and move over

Re: headers

Heddman was the only header I could find that would work with the manual trans linkage when I put them on the Jimmy. I ditched them for 2 1/2" 'vette manifolds and could not be happier. My butt-o-meter shows about equal output on the top end with a little cam (Crane 266, 210 @ .050) and feels like it makes more low end torque. I went from 2 1/2" pipes on the headers to 2 1/2" on the manifolds which helped equalize the ouput I'm sure. Walker DynoMax Hemi Turbo mufflers were my choice. Nice sound with LOTS of sound deadening.

Re: headers

MikeC, did you use the dorman 2 1/2 ram horns? If so how are they holding up?

Thanks

Re: headers

I have the GM 2.5" ramhorns on my 70 GMC for 10+ years now, running strong.

Re: headers

I don't remember where I ordered them from but they are most likely the same as the Dormans. They've been on the truck 15 years now I bet. I bandsawed the generator mounts off and then painted them with Eastwood cast iron dressing if memory serves.

Re: headers

Thanks Jim and Mike, Im considering going with some Dormans but being that they are now made in China Im wondering how they would hold up in a heavy K20 suburban that will be towing a trailer.

Re: headers

I would think they would be fine. My manifolds came from Speedway motors if memory serves and they were not listed as Dormans. But most likely all are made in the same Chinese factory.
