Bringing my old 54 back home.

I've had lots of AD trucks, and one suburban. They are my favorite trucks.

I used to own a 54 deluxe cab, that I sold about 3 1/2 years ago.

Now that my daugther is almost 16, and I bought her a 63 bug with sliding ragtop, we don't have to squeeze all 4 of us into one vehicle.

My son is 12 1/2, and weighs 150lbs. Big football playing 7th grader.

My wife said since we have the bug, that maybe I should by another truck. Don't have to fit 4 in anymore.
And with school functions, football, friends etc., alot of the time it's just me and her, or maybe one of the kids, but if all of us go to a local cruise, my daughter can cruise "her" car.

I was searching, and got to talking to the guy I sold the truck to, and he said he needs to sell it to finish the big garage he's building.

So long story short, I'm bring it home. I've missed it.
I used to drive it everyday, everywhere.

He's upgraded it alot since then too.

New 700R4
driveshaft
Booster/dual m/c and hanging pedal assm., lines etc.
Some minor bodywork.
Completely rebuilt the front G-body suspension, including drop spindles.
Rebuilt steering box.
New rear c/m and new shocks.
Added flaming river joints and 57 chevy car steering column and wheel.
Painted inteior with lizard skin.
Welded 100 holes shut on firewall, and painted it nice.
All new latches, handle assm. in both doors. etc.

It had a moon tank in the grille. He removed it, and put a stock painted grille in.

I'm very excited to get it back.

Plus we want to use it to pull our 61 Scotty camper.

I may change up the look this time, and it may get bagged.

Stay tuned.

Here's pics from when I had it several years ago.

Good Luck with your purchase. I am not doing a front swap, but am curious about the G-Body stub. G-Body as in 78-84 Malibu and GM equivelant? The track width looks good in your pic. Do you have any pics of the front suspension you can post?

I don't have any good pics right now.
I will take some for you though, when it gets home. By months end. I have to drive my half of the 7hr ride to get it.

And as far as I am concerned, the G-body is the PERFECT clip for these.

Perfect track width. Not too wide. I can put a 6 or 7" wheel up front, and still roll low.
The tires in those pics are 15X6 with...I think...a 215/75/15 tire

I've had several with MII frontends, which I though were too narrow, and several with camaro clips. Only one, which was a 69 camaro clip, was good, the others were mid 70's clips, and I thought were too wide.

Purely my opinion. But I've owned alot of these trucks. Built a couple myself, including the baresteel 53 Suburban, and I like the G-body clip the best.
And since he completely rebuilt it, it should be even better than it was before. Plus drop spindles instead of cut coils.

sounds like heaven getting a old ride back. the early camaro 67'-69' and 68'-74' work good like the GM A-body cars. the A- body cars are cheap and plentiful as where the camaro/nova stuff the restorers are grabbing up.
