will a 383 crank fit in my 88' silverado?
 

Im wanting to build a stroker out of my 350 tbi and im wondering if someone can tell me if a 383 crank will fit without a lot of work? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well the crank im buying is already set up to go in a 350 but ive been told by a few people that it wont fit in a late 80's block for some reason. Only the 70's and early 80's. Is that true?

there were some mild design changes in the later v8's but that was all upper engine.
you should be fine\
the crank journals should all match.
what year is the crank out of i can look up the specs for crank and piston journals

Im not sure on specs ill have to ask. Im getting it off craigslist from a guy. I appreciate your help tho. Will I be able to keep my rods or get longer ones possibly? And would I be able to use the tbi still since the computer is set for factory settings or would I be better off getting a different intake and using a carb?

The crank came out of a 76 and thats all I was able to figure out about it but I believe it will work. Im getting a set of pistons next weekend but I was wondering if someone could tell me what the max size rods ill be able to use and what size pistons would work with them I know ill need an offset pin location to use bigger rods. But would it be better to just get shorter rods since that means less weight and more durability? Im just tryin to get some ideas on how to do this easiest and with a budget. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You're gonna have to do some machine work on the bottom of the cylinders for the connecting rods to clear. Best to take the block and all internals (pistons,rings,rods,bearings & crank) to have them do it right for you.

As for using the tbi set up, contact www.tbichips.com and get them to burn a new chip for your computer.

70's and early 80's crank won't fit an 86 and newer block, reason being 1 piece rms seal vs 2 piece, pre 86 was 2 piece and 86 and newer is 1 piece.

not sure if you can covert a 1 piece block to 2 piece or not.

I actually just got done tearing it apart and ran into that problem. Is there any 400 cranks that will have a o e piece rear seal or possibly a 383 crank that would accept a one piece rear seal?

aftermarket like summit eagle etc have 383 or 400 cranks for a 1 piece rms.

I think northern auto parts has a vortec 383 kit, not sure if it'd work on yours or not being it's for a vortec which is 96 or so and newer, but 86 and newer is 1 piece, main difference is the heads and intake in the vortec blocks.

Hi guys I am looking for intake, carb, .040 or .060 over pistons, bearings, 5.7 inch rods.., mainly everything but the crank , cam, and timing chain.
