'67 stepside project
3 Attachment(s)
I've wanted a '67 stepside ever since I first saw the one my neighbor, who was the local NAPA owner, bought one brand new.
I finally found a good solid one....very minimal rust anywhere on it...surface rust was intentional to get the "patina" look Original V8 truck...it has a tired 350 mated to an S-10 T5 manual transmission Factory front sway bar...3.73 positraction... LS1/4L60E swap is in the plan Attachment 2035933 This little bonus came with it Attachment 2035934 Posi long gone...TrueTrac on the way Attachment 2035935 |

Re: '67 stepside project
Lucky dog. Nice truck.
Finding a non-spare, good 67 step fender is going to take a while unless you luck up on one or know someone. I have two fantastic 68-72 fenders I'd love to swap for a similar pair of 67's but thus far the only one's I have found were 1500 miles from me. More photos please. Love photos of anything and everything. |

Hey that's a good looking truck. I bet it's from Arkansas. ;)
I'd drive that one just as it is and love every minute of it. |

a bit more than I wanted to.... but it is really solid.. I figured it would balance out since it doesn't need a ton of rust repair and body work. |
Re: '67 stepside project
I cry every time I look at this thread. Just because this truck is not mine. I don't think you overpaid any considering the condition of the truck. You would probably have more in a rusty one (like mine) to get it to that shape.
Let me go find a tissue...... |

Re: '67 stepside project
Did you make the transmission support/ xmember or buy it somewhere? If so can you let me know where you got it? Just got through tearing out my stock one and looking for a nice one like that.

I bought one but it interfered with the exhaust pipes the way I routed them That bar right behind it is just a piece of angle iron I was using to get some measurements for my balance tube This is the one I bought Dirty Dingo....nice piece but it wouldn't work for me I am considering selling it Attachment 2064800 |
Re: '67 stepside project
You did a good job. I like the square tubing.

it was some scrap I had laying out back of my shop 1½" square x ¼" wall ......2x2 x ¼ angle for the mount....4" square cut on an angle for the trans mount piece Mitered and tig welded 100% penetration on all the joints...very sturdy piece It clears the exhaust where I cut holes in the trailing arm mount cross member Although I won't be lowering this truck...I still wanted the exhaust up high and out of sight from the side.... This trans was out of a TransAm...thus the mounting holes for the torque arm on the tailshaft housing A couple more pics Attachment 2064885 Attachment 2064886 you can see the hole in the cross member where the exhaust pipe goes through tucks it up nice and high Attachment 2064888 |
Re: '67 stepside project
That’s a quality piece. I like it a lot better than the round tubing ones. I’ve got some 1 1/2 laying around, I think I’ll weld one up. If you’ve got some measurements and don’t mind sharing, pm me with them.
