80 two wheel drive Blazer

A guy at work came up to me and said, Hey you’re in to old Chevy trucks aren’t you? I said yep, why? He told me he has an 80 Blazer two wheel drive, bad engine, rust in the floors, been sitting for awhile and he’d like to sell it. I told him to send me some pics, probably not anything I’d be interested in, but I know some fellas that might.

Sent me the first pic lol. He said he’d try to get it uncovered the rest of the way and I could go over and check it out. I’ll keep you guys posted

EDIT: Oops this should have gone in the Blazer area, Ill get it moved.

I think this area gets more foot traffic, and most of us probably like the Blazers if we like the pickups. In fact, I'm trying not to ask what he wants for it. Thank goodness it's not an M1009. I just got finished reading about Honest Bob's and have been thinking how cool it would be to have a squarebody that gets over 20 mpg. Anyway, you can probably do a thread and post this link over in the Burb/Blazer area.

I probably wouldn't have seen it in the Blazer area.

It's a two wheel drive, one of those rare instances where it's more desirable than a 4x4.

Ok I get that, kinda like the 67-72 area. Mostly truck views, Blazers and even Burbs more so have dwindled.

I have no idea what he wants for it. And I have zero idea what prices are for these years. Not really something I am interested in. Maybe if it was 4x4 I would (or incredibly cheap lol). Anyway he just shot me a bunch of pics, drug it out of the bushes. I'm going to go look at it in a half hour or so. Ill post again when I know more.

I went and looked at it. He drove it to where it was parked with it having no major issues. But it was out of site and as you saw eventually just grew over. The main issue it had was someone installed one of those van style sunroofs from back in the day and it leaked. He didnt cover it when parked. The floors are shot, would need entire front floor pan and rockers. The seats have moss growing on them. Rats took the whole thing over as a party town. Looks like the fire wall is has some rust issues on and on.

The good (if any) was it was top of the line. Power everything, air, cruise ... velour lol. I dont know much about the tops so no idea if sliding windows and a little wing deflector window at the front edge were optional. He doesnt want to part it and is thinking 2K would be a good starting point. Personally I have no idea.

Im not meaning this to be a for sale thread. I was talking to a buddy that had an interest and was checking it for him. Lemme see if I can edit this and add a couple of pics for the curious ...

if thats rust i=on the fire wall seam behind the distributor then its not long for this world in being water tight in the wiper cowl area and in to the cab area .

at best i think all the problems its a solid parts doner for someone with a good body that wants to make a 2wd blazer .

Re: 80 two wheel drive Blazer

Looks straight and very complete. The pans and rockers would be a chore. Not sure about the cowl area as mentioned. But being so complete along with the fact that he drove it out means to me that with a lot of cleaning and the rust repair that it could be a good driver. Would take a lot of money to make it like new, but that's not important to everyone. I don't think anyone could misconstrue this as a sales thread. One of the coolest things about the forum is when folks make others others aware of an available truck, just like the fb/cl threads. In fact, there's a thread that's a few years old in the squarebody trucks area that's an update on a connection made on a truck that a member was aware of, like this.

The underside of the doors are also totally shot. Gonna have to be sentimental to this particular year and model of Blazer to bring it back to glory =)

For the curious (lol) he sold it, $2,250.00 Guy always wanted one and plans to restore. Good luck to him.

That sounds like a pretty good outcome, all things considered. I could see getting it clean, getting it working, and then repairing, replacing things to make it a nice driver. But to me, restoration will mean that guy will have to throw away a lot of stuff that has been damaged by time, but would be workable if you weren't trying to bring it back to showroom. But everybody has their own idea of what they want. It'd be cool if the guy joined up here and showed us his project.
