Just bought for Browne and Power Tower

picked this one up for parts, mainly the browne with power tower on top of it, looks smaller than 6000 series so maybe like a 5000. Numbers on tower but to much grease on browne to find a tag, will have to post more pics. The rest of the C70 is small block engine, 465 trans with E brake and PTO for a hoist, hydraulic brake rear end with vacum 2 speed and a whole lot of scrap iron.

Whats that browne for? Is it like my older Kenworth with two sticks and two trannys main has 4 then splitter has 4 giving me 16 forward speeds. Is that do the same type of thing? Mine are Dana/Spicer. Trucks a 78 if I remember correctly.

Some brownes are just 3 speed with under, direct and over which you can use with each gear in the main box. If its a 4 speed browne you will have deep under and is not used on the highway, strickly off road loaded to the max in soft ground and you need to go as slow as you can, don't need it very often but sometimes it will save your bacon. There are lots of variations as far as gear ratios, you can have an 8000 series box with 3 or 4 different ratios tailered to your needs. They are all just about dead and gone. Todays drivers wouldn't know what to do with two sticks. I grew up with a 5 an 4.

As far as the power tower, brownes are rare and to find a browne with a tower on it is really rare. A tower can be put on most any browne as an option and most commonly used to drive a winch on rig up trucks. I found one in a one ton winch truck and it is the smallest browne and tower I've ever seen, to bad the ID tag is nocked off and I don't know what series it is but it must be the smallest ever made.
