Made a good milestone today. Put the cab back on the chassis for the last time today. It went really well. Now on to blocking out the other body panels. Here are some pics. Steve

Made a little more progress on the 57. I blocked the bed panels out for the first time and put another 3 coats of 2K primer surfacer on. Will block out these coats put 2 more on block and paint. I also layed out the moldings again and drilled the holes for the clips in the side panels. here are the pics. Steve

Making some progress on the project. Prepped and primed the rear bed cross supports and wheelhouses. Also drilled the front fenders for the side emblems. Primed the front fenders this morning. So all the body is up to the second coats of 2K primer. Have to block and prime one more time the sand and paint. Probably won't paint ti spring as the cold is here. Steve

check around locally, maybe you can find a rental spray booth and you could paint it there and assemble it for spring. then DRIVE IT!

Looking great, really clean lines! I can relate to the weather problem. Solvent pop occurred when i cleared my cab. Garage was too cold. I painted again last weekend when it was 20 degrees here. Garage is heated, but fumes in the attached garage were a concern. Only did the box steps as a trial run. The obnoxious fumes didn’t get into the house so I’m going to continue spraying. Your spray booth looks similar to mine  I’m going to respray my cab next weekend. At least in the winter the humidity is lower and I don’t get any bugs in my spray booth:lol:

I'm really hoping you guys are considering respiratory safety. No project paint job is worth your health. A rental paint booth would be cheap compared to health bills. I found a breathing air system for cheap in the local online classifieds. I put it outside for fresh air and run a hose to my mask.

I have been looking around to rent a booth. I have plenty of friends in the buisness but hate asking because they are trying to make a living but will see. The hard part is getting all the pieces moved. Still a ways to go before paint.
I am still trying to figured out the best way to paint the cab. Inside first then mask and leave a hard line somewhere in the door opening? Steve

I just did this. Did outside first, then masked off and painted inside. Paint on doors hidden by weatherstrip. Paint lines in cab kept sharp by using 3M vinyl pinstripe tape, then masking to it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am painting the inside the same color as the outside. I like where you taped it off the inside and may do that then sand and buff the hard line. It boils down to which is easier to mask the inside or the outside. Lot of time to thing about it. Steve

Ooohhhh. Gotcha. First time around I painted it orange inside and out, all in one hit. It was not very fun but at least I didn’t spend 5 hours masking that time!

Update on my project. All of the body panels are in final primer. The cab is left but should not be to bad other than keeping the finished work clean during the process. I add the "V" emblems to the doors as this is now a V8 truck with that 6.0 LS in it. I also dropped off the bench seat off to get it redone in leather. I also ordered the Ididit steering column, Billet specialties "D" shaped steering wheel and the items to install them. I won't get these till the middle of March so order ahead when doing a project. Here are some pics.

Cleaned up the shop and then moved the cab back over to block and prime for the last time. Have mask off all the finished work first before sanding. Here are a couple of pics of the cab. Steve

A little update on my project. Have been blocking away on the cab for the last time. I also got the steering wheel that I ordered early in Jan. I was told middle of March but it came early!. The column is still not here yet but not really needed yet but would like to test fit it. Here is a pic of the wheel. Steve

Hi, The measurements I went with were 3" from the outer point of the V to the edge of the door and 3/4" from the body line to the middle point of the V. That is the same measurements on the front fender emblem 3" front fender edge to the front of the emblem and 3/4" from the body line to the lowest part of the emblem. Steve

Finally everything is in the final primer. My plan is to paint the roof first in the Vanilla shake then paint the inside. After that get the doors back on and get read to paint the outside. Still a long ways off but tat light is getting a little brighter at the end of the tunnel. Here are some pics of the cab on final primer. Steve

Re: 57 Fleetside C4 build

looks great.
I see you have masked off the frame etc but wondering if you have done it from the underside in the area around the rockers. when you spray the rockers there will likely be abunch of overspray because you want to get the bottom sides. that said, the overspray almost always finds it's way under the masking if it isn't covered from the underside of the frame as well. I would hate to see all that previous work covered in overspray. it would be a lot of work to clean it all up shiny again. a little extra work, I know, but prolly less in the long run if you mask it all off before you spray. possibly you have already and it is just hard to see in the pics.
one thing I do, before I spary colour, is shoot some wax and grease remover on the flat areas that will show any ripples in the bodywork. I set up a light at the far end of the project first, turn off the shop lights, and then shoot a little wax and grease remover on the project so it glistens like new paint would. any defects show up pretty quickly so you can look after them before the spendy paint gets applied. just a thought.
