aftermarket a/c

I am getting ready to decide if I should buy an aftermarket a/c system or go with the original set up. Have done a LS 1 swap (and have the new compressor installed) and so a retrofit will be needed if I stay with the old system. The question is what would be better I am going to spend money either way. In the past I have not had good luck with a Vintage air set up and another brand in my other builds. Would like to hear some current owners of these aftermarket systems thoughts. I live in Houston and it needs to be cold. Thanks

I have Vintage Air and I have no complaints. Well worth it for the money in my opinion. What problem did you have with yours?

Re: aftermarket a/c

I’ve done two builds with vintage air, and then the last build we retrofit factory AC into a non-AC cab using R134a with a parallel flow condenser. I definitely prefer the factory setup as it’s much quieter and can pull fresh air from the cowl…and properly setup it blows just as cold as vintage air. Factory system can be totally overhauled for less $$$ than vintage air, but definitely takes a lot more work and research to do right.

my experience with Vintage air was it would not cool the cab. in a small 46 chev pu. The cab was fully insulated and still couldn't keep up. The next was a 56 wagon same results. Not good here in Houston.

Been out of the market for a few years. Is $1500 the going rate for a aftermarket a/c system.
