292 Motor mount

Thinking about doing a 292 in my ‘72 C10.

You need to be a Premium member to post a WTB. If you see anything for sale on the parts board you can buy it, you just can't post the WTB.

Re: 292 Motor mount

If I was able to locate all the parts I'd be inclined to do the same. Never had an inline in any of the trucks I've rebuilt.

Without looking I think the 6 month subscription is 15 bucks. Then you could post a WTB on the parts board.

There are a lot of people pulling l-6 engines. It should be easy for you to fine everything you need.

Then there's the 292-only 4x4 diagonal engine crossmember.
Forged from refined Inobtainium.
However, unnecessary in a C/10 installation.

Was the inobtainium brought in from Pandora?

I'll have to look inside the box to be sure...

passenger side 292 motor mount perch is available through " stove bolt" or "12 bolt" ( I think). I've had one for 5 years with no problem. Only thing is it covers up your mechanical fuel pump mount and hole in the block, means going to an electric pump.

I've seen those, but I'm not interested. They anchor a 292 like a 250. The symetrical layout is fine for the smaller displacement, but 292s have massive torque, which is why GM went to the trouble of the more forward passenger-side mount. And the electric fuel is a deal breaker for me.

How come the passenger side perches are harder to find? Just curious

Re: 292 Motor mount

I'm thinking there were less produced ,But so many 6 cylinders were swapped over to small blocks and you can just drop a small block in place of the 250 using the same 250 engine perches .You can't use the right side 292 perch with a small block so they probably got tossed off to the side and replaced with a 250 right side perch or a set of small block perches ? anybodies guess ? there are probably a bunch laying under garage work benches all over the country . Last I noticed they were selling for about $100.00 for the right side . :chevy:

Be nice if somebody could stamp some more out, instead of a goofy way to foul up the Mechanical Fuel Pump.

I've got a question about this. If it is not a nut an bolt restoration could you move up to the 73 frame and engine mounts?

You could, I guess. You could move all the 67/72 body parts over too. But the 292 would still need its own RH Mount.

How similar are the frames?

You can use the '73 frame brackets on the SB and BB engines with a little modification but I think it would take quite a bit of modification to use them on the 292 engines, at least on the right side.

LockDoc, followed your suggestion and upgraded my membership. Posted a WTB this morning in the parts forum so hopefully I’ll be able find a 292 frame perch and motor mount. C3pilot

Sorry, I didn't proof read my question. I meant to use the frame brackets.

Good deal! Thanks. That will be your best bet for finding something.
