NP 435 shifter question

Got a question about my shifter on a New Process 435 4 speed with the granny low. I'm not sure if it's worn or if it is supposed to be this way. If I put the transmission in neutral and push it to the right in the H pattern (towards reverse but not down) I can feel that I'm pushing against a spring. If I let the shifter go it would spring back away from reverse and move toward 1-2 but still in neutral. BUT, if still in neutral and I push the shifter left (towards 1-2) just to the left, not up (1 or low) or down (2) the shifter does not spring back towards the center of the H pattern it feels loose and sloppy and you can wiggle it left and right. Is this normal or do you think something is broken?

Re: NP 435 shifter question

Sounds like the reverse gate. It’s there to help prevent trying to shift into reverse when your moving through the forward gears.
