Back to the bed for some needed finishing touches. Previous owner cut out a section to show off the 4 link. I'm not going to close it up, because I like the idea as well and will never haul anything in there. Built a frame out of some old shelving brackets. Gives it a further custom look and adds some rigidity back to the floor of the bed. Its black now, but will paint silver and distress it to match the bed before I install.

Another check in the completed box on the checklist. Wrapped it up with a distressed look to match the bed and fasted it with stainless hardware/ brass wing nuts to be different.

Been a while, luckily work is slowly starting back up here in the NY Metro area. Jards are opening back up and I was able to grab some drive train goodies. Original plan was to go with an NV3500 transmission. Everyone and everyone's friends have had no confidence in these. Still do not have 2-3 grand to throw at a T56, so I'm going with an AR5. Drifters are throwing these things behind LS's and they are holding up, so we'll see what happens. With the trans, flywheel, adapter kit, clutch and clutch slave, its going to put me at around $1300. Still waiting on the kit, so here's some pics of the trans all prepped. Its an AR5/ MA5 out of a 2007 Chevy Colorado. The Bell housing an automatic 4L60E. It will need to be modified once the kit comes in. For now everything is blasted, cleaned and primed.

Been reading about these transmissions getting used for mild builds. Seems like as long as you not dumping the clutch w/450ftlbs of torque twisting things they're a very good alternative.

I'll keep watching.

Kit is in! Come with Adapter plate, Hydraulic throw out bearing spacer and new pilot bearing. Fabbot has an instruction video on Youtube. Most of it is self explanatory, but it helped with the proper torque settings for the bolts. Modifying the bell housing was really easy, due to it being aluminum. Used the adapter to mark what has to come out and drilled (2) holes in the side for the fluid feed and bleeder. I opted for the optional AN-3 fitting to get rid of GM's quick connect. This will make it easier to connect to a universal slave. Its held in with a retaining pin and new is provided, if you mangle it getting it out:).All went together very easily and I'm very happy with the quality of the kit.

With the help of a good friend, was able to get the motor squared away and painted. Rounded it all out with some LS7 lifters and LS9 head gaskets. Heads are torqued down with ARP studs. I went with an machinery gray for the block, wanted to stay away for the reds and oranges. Used an adapter kit to allow any SBC valve cover to work and cover the coils. Will have to modify down the road to get oil in this thing, other than down the dipstick :)

Playing around today. Wanted to clean up some of the casting marks on the Alternator/ pump bracket. Once I had the Dremel out, got a little crazy. First time carving with this thing, hope it doesn't look too hokey.

Thanks. I used same style cutting bits in (2) sizes: 3/16-in., 3/32-in. Purchased at Lowes.

Super Cool!!! Love the personal touch to parts that normally wouldn't be cool at all. That is what sets a truck apart from the rest in my eyes. Make it yours.

Just about have everything I need to start the swap. Re-envisioned how I want to move forward with this build and realized I really want the one I let go back. The plan now is to go back to steel wheels and change the front clip to round headlights '74. I found a set of black steel wheels that look very close to the old school slots I had on pretty much all my previous C10/ K10 trucks. They only come in 17x9 and are made for a Jeep. Had a machine shop open the center bore up to 78.1mm. Went with Nitto NT555 G2's 255/50/17 up front and 275/50/17 in the rear. Was nervous about a 9" rim upfront, but it clears fine. I think the rear needs more meat?

Found them on eBay. There are a couple 4x4 websites that have them as well, but they are a little more expensive on those sites. Machine shop charged $120 to bore them out to Chevy spec, well worth it to keep them hub centric.
