Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Greetings Captain,

Is there any problem with redrilling the disc to retain the 6 bolt pattern? I want to keep my truck pattern on my '70.

Thanks,

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

I just ran across an article that said that the rear disc for a 14 bolt diff has the ebrake and the same fit as the Eldorado. Do you know anything about this?

Thanks'

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Redrilling a 5 hole rotor to a 6 hole rotor may be a little tricky. One of the holes for the 6 x 5.5" hole pattern overlaps one of the 5 x5 holes. So at least that one hole will need to be filled.

Just bare with me a few days and I should have something for you later this week on a 6 hole rear disc conversion.

I've not heard this about the rear calipers for the later model 14 bolts. I'll check into that. Do you have a link to this article?

Rule #1----Don't believe everything you read on the internet!

I checked into the story about the Eldorado caliper on the 14 bolt axle. It seems he needed a caliper on the front of his truck and tried it and it fit(apparently an older truck) and there you go....... He published it on the internet, I guess because Eldorado rear calipers are so easy to find when you need a caliper for your truck.

Sorry for the goose,

captinfab, i plan on ordering your brackes soon and will be using the wilwood calipers on all four corners. I am going to be running 15x6 stock steel wheels. Will they clear the calipers with no rubbing issues??

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

The only wheel I have fit up on this rear disc conversion is a 15 x 8 Rally wheel. As long as your wheels are disc brake compatable, I don't see why they wouldn't clear the calipers.

Hello Captain,

I did a little brousing and it looks like a '96 K1500 6 bolt rotor will work with your set up if you make the spacer 5/8" thinner.

I replied to your post in the 6 lug rotor thread.

so is the application on the rotors for the front or rear???

Captainfab 03-06-2011 12:15 AM

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

They are the fronts for the AWD Astro/Safari's. They didn't come with 4 wheel discs until 2003-2005. At which time they were a 6x5.5" wheel bolt pattern.

Here are a few pics of the OEM D52 calipers. These are available in two different piston sizes. The JD5/JB5 calipers have a 2 15/16" diameter piston and the JD7/JB7 calipers have a 3 5/32" diameter piston. If you need a E-brake these can be found under the application of rear calipers for the '76-'78 Cadillac Eldorado. The A1 Cardone part numbers for these are 16-4116 and 16-4117. Those are loaded calipers.

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

If the D52 caliper fits early 80's C10s and C20s, any idea of why not the C30s?

Captainfab 05-16-2011 11:21 PM

Re: D52 Caliper Rear Disc Brake Brackets

Well I don't have any firsthand experience with the single wheel C30's, but with the dually C30's, they use a totally different caliper than the D52. It is much bigger and mounts differently.

What caliper is used with a C30 disc conversion. Want to keep e-brake type caliper. I will be also using 16" facory steel wheels

Thanks Capt'n! Any idea of a front brake improvement for the early '80s C30 duallys?
