What do I have?

Hi everyone. I obtained a 72 C20 fleetside long box through a trade and now I have time to tinker with it. The last owner told me it had a 350 and there was a 350 badge by the front sidemarker but I found a block number that showed that it was a 307. There isn't any other badges on it and I would like to find out what I actually have so I can purchase the badges. And order proper gaskets, filters etc. without taking the part to the store. Is there any way to find out what I have?
Thanks for any help.

Re: What do I have?

Grab the casting number behind the driver's side head and the deck stamp in front of the other head.

Am I looking for numbers on the block? I have the one number from the rear of the block ( close to the firewall and under the distributor ). I'll try again and see if I can locate any other numbers, anywhere.

Check on the front of the block on the passenger side right above the water pump top bolt, there is a flat spot in front of the passenger head. There should be a number stamped into the block, if it wasn't machined off!
The casting number is on the back of the block, behind the drivers side head on the block as stated in the above post.

Sometimes pictures help!

Ok...I have a pic of the number that's at the back of the engine but I can't see a number where you guys are describing on the passenger side. I'm trying to send pics to confirm that I'm looking at the right spot but having trouble.
Can you spot the differences between the models of trucks by looking at them? Trying to figure out if I have a camper special or Cheyenne or ? I would like to get the proper badging for the truck some day.
Thanks for the help.

On the flat pad in front of head , may have to scrape to find , it is stamped not cast.

Why not post the numbers you found?

Re: What do I have?

The number at the back of the block, driver's side, is " 3970020 ". I'll check tonight and see if I grind off some paint I can locate the stamped number on the passenger side.

Re: What do I have?

3970020 is a 1968-1973 307 2 bolt block.

That casting number was not used elsewhere as far as I understand....

Hope this helps...

Re: What do I have?

Thanks everyone. Well it looks like the stamped number on the front passenger side was machined off. So I'm done with that.

Back to my other question. Is there any way to tell the difference between the models by just looking at them? I still don't know what I have. A Cheyenne, Camper special or whatever. Does anyone know what nameplates I would use?
I'm still having trouble posting any pics or I would throw one of mine in here.

Is the glove box original? There should be a sticker on the inside of the door with the SPID on it. It will tell you the options that were on it from the factory. If it is the original seat, there might be a build sheet between the foam and seat frame. I found part of one attached to the top of the glove box on my kids 69 and found one behind the gas tank cover on a friends 70.

This is one from a 1970 C10

Re: What do I have?

Yeah, unfortunately there isn't a glove box, just a door. And the seat was re-apholstered so nothing there.
Thanks anyway.

Here a picture of where your SPID would have been.
