Project: Bolt one on
Start with a California 70 K5 tub and frame.
add 52" springs in the front and 56" springs in the rear, 6" of total lift. Add a D60 front, 14B rear, 4.56 gears with Detroit lockers front and rear. High steer, a Black Box by Northwest fab and a NP205 with Furd guts behind a 4L60. 383 Vortec stroker for motivation. Here's a few pics for Kurt: |
Re: Project: Bolt one on
Sure, looks like a good candidate.
Is this how it currently sits? Would need a frame with mounts under it to do it right. Nice parts list, is the 4L60 built? What tire size is he going to run? |

This is how it currently is. Frame's in my yard, waiting to get sandblasted, hot dipped galvanized and painted. 4L60 is built, Corvette servos and all that crap. Going to run a 39.5" Pitbull Rocker on re-centered H1 rims. |
Re: Project: Bolt one on
Looks like a good recipe!

Can you post those pictures back up on my other thread? I'd like to see that C/30 that was converted again. I am working on it, too. |

working on the frame today...
Got a box (108lbs !) of freight coming. Wanted to be ready...
IN order to fit the 52" springs in front, the original (and banged up) spring hangers in front need to come off, as does the body mount. Gary and I got that done today. We also got the 1 ton frame ready to go and stacked both on top of the beater truck... |

Hey Jon,
Was away for a few days, pm returned. |

Yes, a longer spring is a flexier spring. Better ride, better traction. You also get 4" of lift out of stock spring. We're running a 2" Skyjacker for 6" of total lift. |
Re: Project: Bolt one on
should be a beast...

Re: Project: Bolt one on
wish i would have seen that before i got all my stuff for my blazer

Be better for fit and finish of the panels too. I'll take Bill the pics, talk it over with him and we'll figure it out. Nice trailer BTW. |

The trailer's a piece of 400.00 crap. It's what I paid for it, but it's good at holding the body tub up. |
Re: Project: Bolt one on
Got the brackets in today... DHL really moves fast!
These things are HEAVY: |
Re: Project: Bolt one on
Definitely look heavy duty. How soon until you start getting them installed?

Re: Project: Bolt one on
Got the frame back, got the rear suspension slung. 56" long 4" lift skyjacker with a 4" ORD shackle flip (my brother already bought it, or I would have gone with the diy4x one, much sturdier).
Also got all the items powder coated/painted. I must really love this guy (in a non homo sort of way :), he's the godfather of my kids), full on frame off! |

Keeping an eye on this one.
I'm in Mass, nice to see more east coast members |
Re: Project: Bolt one on
Got the 14B rear and D60 front blasted, installed the Detroit in the front. Axles and springs are installed, getting ubolts made on tuesday.
Motor's built, waiting on the engine mount kit from DIY4X. Transmission's gone through as well. Once I get the stuff from Northwest Fab, high steer will go on as well as the Black Box gear reduction box. I'll be rebuilding the 205 with pieces from NWF as well. |
Re: Project: Bolt one on
Got to do burn outs in this the other day... my last project.
Still working out the bugs. Then building a tow rig to tow the Jeep and K5. A 68 K30 that started life as a 71 C30... |
Re: Project: Bolt one on
That frame is just incredible! Diggin' your Jeep as well.

Re: Project: Bolt one on

Re: Project: Bolt one on
Well, the front of the frame's been looking lonely and forlorn for a while, so Gary and I added a bit of bling:
a 383 Stroker that started off as a Vortec 350 from a 98 Burb. Just got it back from the machine shop, where it got all sorts of goodies, cam, roller rockers, some port and polish work on the Vortec heads, an Edelbrock TBI intake, some aluminum valve and timing chain covers and Sanderson stainless ceramic coated headers. |
Re: Project: Bolt one on
Sounds like a great motor - what do expect the HP and torque to be?
