That General w/dual breathers (big ones) is quite a set-up. I wonder if the red Astro is the one I took pictures of at Macungie.

Re: GM Semis

that truck wouldve been about 6 feet longer nowadays
would make a great base for a hotrod though
i might take out the middle axle and stretch the sleeperpart all the way to the rear of the chassis and make it intoo a camper

Re: GM Semis

is it just me, or did they not put sleepers on any of the older semi's. I've seen quite a few cracker boxes with sleepers, but very few early to mid 60's conventionals with sleepers.

Re: GM Semis

i dont think they had regulated drive and rest times back then and people prolly where glad they had a job too , they prolly just propped a pillow against the doorframe put some cardboard across to cover the hole between the seats and keep the gearstick from poking them and slept that way or slept next to their load in the back
motels where prolly cheaper back in those days too

Re: GM Semis

Drive time has been regulated since the 40's. I'd hazard a guess the the union guys where motel bound.

Like the truck as well as the '56 Chevys behind it. I've owned a few through the years.

from the patina on the truck and cars it actually looks like the pic has taken recently
