The 6.0 Silverado Build:
3 Attachment(s)
Well, I guess it's time to start this build thread. Progress will be slow so bear with me. I got good news and bad news today about my 6.0 engine and 4l80e transmission. They told me it would be delivered to my house around 5:30. Cool I thought. Then I found out that it was going to be delivered in a HUGE crate. At least I know I can remove EVERYTHING I may need without cutting anything I can use. Heres all the pics I have for tonight. I guess I know what I'm doing tomorrow.

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Can't wait to see the progress on this build.
Also I can see why the accident happened. That driver looks way too young to be driving. Damn young kids. :haha: Keep at it man. We don't expect it done fast, just lots of updates. :D |
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Got the 6.0 about halfway out tonight. Stopped around midnight due to the fact that I could not feel my fingers or toes. During lunch today I ordered two new 87 fuel tanks from Goodmark. Both fuel level senders, pumps, 'Vette filter regulator assy's, high pressure tank switching valve, engine mount adapters, and a few other odds and ends. Hope to finish the engine removal tomorrow and get some pics for you guys. By the way, dern it's a tight fit in that van. Till tomorrow--Josh

:metal: You can do it! :metal:

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
:metal: just found this!!! right on buddy. keep at it... baby steps!! what mounts did you decide to go with?
and they just delivered the entire van to your house? |
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Right now I am just going with the engine mount adapters like Bob is using. Looks like they'll work fine. Yeah, they brought the whole van to the house. At least I nkow I can get all the parts I need without them cutting anything. Lots of work ahead of me today. Cant beleive they fit the 6.0 in that van. It is very cramped.

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
A buddy of mine out here got the same set up for his 65 SWB. Those motor tranny combos are fun too. The easy way to get them out of the van is to take out, or cut out, the radiator support area and take the motor out the front.

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
OK, engine is out and sitting on a rolling dolly in the garage. Will try to clean it up tomorrow (it's pretty clean anyway) and as soon as my mounts show up it can go in the truck. Will probably paint the block but I kind of like the aluminum color on everything else. May wind up needing a different p.s pump though. The van one has a remote reservoir and I dont really want to use that. If anyone has a truck pump laying around that you dont need please let me know. Will trade if someone wants. I will try tyo get pics tomorrow.

OK, OK, here is the 6.0 on the dolly. Will get cleaned up Monday and the block painted as well. Lots of family stuff to do today. Also, went and picked up a new driver so I have something to haul parts in again.

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Motor looks good. What are you gonna do paint wise on it?
Love the new truck too. Those are great trucks all around. BTW: I figure with as much as I harass everyone for pictures, when I finally start my "Build" thread, I will have to do a new picture every week at least...of progress. |
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Great progress Josh. Nice looking parts runner too!
|
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
I think I am just goint to paint the block a semi-gloss black for now. I like the look of these engines stock when they're clean. Maybe some aftermarket valve covers later if I want to change it up a bit. I need to find a truck intake and a truck P.S. pump though since I cant mount a cover on a van intake. Anyone got one laying around they wont be needing?

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Great progress! It's nice having the rolling chassis there to get WHATEVER you might need.
And I love the new DD! That's exactly what I have in mind, a CCSB (the really short bed) 1/2 ton 4x4. |
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Alright another LS swap to get ideas from! Very nice looking parts getter  Motor looks really clean.
|
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Well, no progress in the last two days. My engine mounts should be here today or tomorrow. If they show up I will get it set in the chassis and get some more pics. Should be fairly quick from there. Still need to remove the bed and replace my tanks with the 87 ones along with every last other part in the fuel system. Hopefully parts will start arriving soon. I am ready to get this thing bolted in.

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Nice!
I still need to find me 2 6.0's |
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
i think the vans use a small MAF compared to the truck are you switching to the larger MAF?
|
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
I am not sure. They are rated at the same power level so I assume either is fine? I have not researched any of this yet. I would like to use a stock intake and box like Bob did on project Fred so maybe I will need to swap that over. I also need to find out if I can use this van harness if I swap over to a truck MAF sensor. I may need to find a truck harness as well. Any insight into this would be appreciated. Thanks fellas.

Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Great looking project! I like the "crate" the engine was shipped in! Did you buy the whole truck? or just the drivetrain? Nice looking parts hauler, BTW. I will be watching this one too.:chevy::chevy:
|
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Actually just bought the drivetrain. I guess that the factory crate was the safest to ship it in. I guess for $1500 for everything I wont complain.
|
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
Yeah I think your good!
|
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
That is a smokin' deal!!!
|
Re: The 6.0 Silverado Build
When the time comes I hope I can find a deal like that. Nice score! Around here the boneyards have lost their mind.
