Hey guys, i am goin to do a build thread for my Wife's brother, Tyler. He is 17 and graduating high school this year, he has wanted to do something but did not know what to do, His parents picked him up this truck a year ago and that is when we kinda started on it, this will probaly be a slow build thread so i will try to show you what is happening when i can. Plans are for a camaro clip, a l31 vortec, shortbed, shaved....... not too much, this is on a teenagers budget. we will do what we can. the color will be orange eventually. anyways on to pics....

Good to see another Canuck on here. Looks like a real good start. There is lots of good information available on this forum.

Looks like you got a bit of that white stuff.

Re: T-Man's 58 Apache project

Thanks guys, i appreciate it, i hope this build will not be a long haul, because i would really like to get it done for graduation for him, the only problem is it is 1.5 hours from me, so him and his dad get done what they can till i get out there. But it will be done, Thanks again....

Whats happening with the rear of the frame? Are you shortening it or putting the later model back half on?

We already shortened the frame down the appropriate length, the dilema we ran into was the leafs on the camarop diff were twisted and hung out too far, so that green truck being pulled away we robbed the hangers and shackles and leafs off of it, i then proceded to clean up the original camaro diff and welded new perches on it, it is a cheaters way of doin it, but budget is everything sometimes, we really wanted a 4-bar and bags, but you have to sacrifice someplaces sometimes to have the final product, thanks for noticeing, i will be mor detailed with the pics from now on, i was in a rush when putting them on.

Well i went to the farm this weekend, to help side the house, just decided that i would show you some pics of what Tyler has got done. He has been busy with school and then helping with the house, but he got most of the truck disassembled, then sprained his ankle. Well to some pics, not much for now but more to come....

Well i went and picked up an order i made , ordered the metal for the truck, i went with pro body parts here in town, they get tri-plus mteal, i am very satisfied with the quality already, i usually get cross canada stuff, this stuff is way nicer, heavier gauge..... any6ways soon we can start on the cab now, so here are some pics.

I'm just asking but why did you cut the Camaro into tiny pieces just to extract the front clip and the rear axle?

Did it put up a fight?

Hey guys, well over the x-mas holidays we got some more stuff done on the truck, i got tyler to become a member now and his user ID is Tyler58' and for now they will be using my account to post pics., so here are some pics and when he gets registered he can start to add pics, as for the Camaro, that was just fun to cut it up, she went through 8 sawzall blades to do it, so she gave a little bit of a fight, btw she was heavily rusted!

Re: T-Man's 58 Apache project

This cab looks "heavily rusted". I wonder if someone, in 10 years will read this and cry when they see the Camaro cut up. I'm not saying you should have saved her, just think it's interesting what we save and what we discard. My '54 started out as a 3/4 ton longbed. Most people would have used it as a donor. BTW, you guys are hard core working in the snow! Big props from sunny California!

Nice work man, my roof was rusted like yours so i decided to replace it, i found that to be easier to do instead of repairing all that rust,

Do the cleco clamps help out a bunch? Ive got to do all the same patch panels you just did.

nuke1 01-07-2009 08:44 PM

Re: T-Man's 58 Apache project

Ben, the clecos help out alot, they do not get in the way like vise grips, are small and can be easily used, one of the better investments i have made in my years as a bodyman.
