C10 crossmember question

I have an 81 C10 short box pickup that I will be putting an LQ4 6.0 LS and 4L80 trans. into... will the stock trans crossmember work or will I need a different crossmember?

IF I need a different one, what crossmember should I buy?

Go follow this guy on YouTube.
He has several videos on LS swapping a squarebody truck.

You can also ask your questions in the LS section,…

Re: C10 crossmember question

You can slide the cross member back, and redrill holes.

I bought one of the adjustable versions with the double hump that I am disappointed in, and will just fab up something nicer when I get around to it.

Some of these trucks have a crossmember that drops on the driver side and some are the "butterfly models.

Some questions can be answered in either section. No harm or foul utilizing a different section of the site if the question asked goes unanswered or not answered within your time constraints.

It really depends on the LS conversion motor mounts use, as they all seem to have a different engine placement. Fortunately, if you have to modify or build something, the transmission mount is the easiest to build/modify. I'm getting ready to do an L86/8L90 swap in my 84 and am currently researching a complete motor/transmission mount kits. I used the Dirty Dingo setup in the 93 that I'm doing right now and it worked great. However, I haven't been able to get them to return my emails to see if their setup works as well in the Squarebodys. Will report back once I figure it out.

Re: C10 crossmember question

Not sure if you found the answer you are looking for but I have an ‘85 with an ls1/4l80e. I hated the factory cross member. Some of the bolts are under the body/on top of the frame, it’s odd shaped for the one exhaust pipe to clear….
I used one from TejasSteelWorks or something like that. I believe I have an old build thread on here that will have pictures
