65 frame/front 72 disc brake/steering questions?

I'm putting a 72 front crossmember complete with all 72 steering linkage ect. into my 65? Short 2wd frame.
Questions:
-I noticed that the rod that hangs off the passenger side frame and attaches to the steering linkage is bent differently/more of an angle then the original one. What's the name of this rod for future reference? Should I drill a new upper hole or put the original back on. I'm not sure why they are bent differently. Does it have to do with the 3/8" dimples that were on the 72 frame attachment points?
-When putting on the 72 Power steering box. Can I just use some 3/8" flat stock to compensate for the 65 not have the dimples to clear the steering box? Then simply drill 2 new holes.
Thanks in advance

I think what you are talking about is the DRAG LINK. I used all the components from a 71 on my 64 short box. I did use the 71 drag link and very carefully re drilled the holes in the frame for that one. I had the ols fram from the 71 for reference. I have had the front end aligned and there were no problems. I can send you a photo tomorrow if you like

Here is my stock 64 cross member with all the steering components, disc brakes etc from a 71. I think if I did it again I would have switched the whole cross member. The angle and position I drilled the frame I took off the 71 frame. Good Luck. I don,t think it matters but I still have the manual box on ,but will be putting the power steering box on soon

You used washers to space it out. How far is it spaced. I'm thinking about 3/8"

Sorry..Yeah your right. I think I used thick wall tubing and cut spacers the same hieght as the dimples. Im sure washers would do too, I just think a spacer looks better..Good luck, hope the picture helped

I used my stock drag link. I did not do a whole crossmember swap, but I am using a 71' power steering box and all 71' disc brake components. Everything lines up perfectly. It may be different if you have the 71' crossmember, but I have never heard of anyone having to change the drag link. Have you tried just using your stock one?

I'm going to check it out. I've got both setups and would rather not have to drill any holes
